SCHENECTADY — An auto garage incurred heavy damage after catching fire on Friday.

One firefighter suffered a minor ankle injury while combatting the two-alarm fire at Amigo’s Auto Repair at 1567 State St., said city Fire Department Chief Raymond Senecal.

“There were seven people inside at the time of the fire and they were able to escape the building,” Senecal said.

Authorities responded to the heavily involved structure shortly after 12 p.m.

The blaze was under control at 1:45 p.m. but heavy smoke continued to billow from the structure, part of a complex of four buildings, according to property owner Luigi DiGioacchino.
