POUGHKEEPSIE — Two days after upsetting Seton Hall on the road, the UAlbany women’s basketball team fell 67-48 to Marist in its final tune-up game prior to America East Conference play starting this weekend.
In Tuesday’s non-conference defeat, Ellen Hahne led UAlbany (1-2) with 12 points, while Lucia Decortes added 11 points and seven rebounds. For Marist (4-0), Caitlin Weimar had 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Zaria Demember-Shazer also had 14 points.
UAlbany led 13-9 after one quarter, but trailed 27-23 at halftime. Marist outscored UAlbany 21-6 in the third quarter before a fourth period in which the Great Danes never were closer than 16 points.
UAlbany’s Helene Haegerstrand was coming off scoring a career-high 26 points in UAlbany’s Sunday win against a Big East opponent. Against Marist, the sophomore had seven points for a UAlbany squad that only received eight points from its bench.
UAlbany opens league play Saturday at UMBC.
