AMSTERDAM – An Amsterdam woman has been arrested in the theft of a package from a home in the city as police investigate two other reported thefts from the same area.

Stephanie A. Devarney, 35, of Gorski Street, was charged Wednesday with one count of petty larceny, a misdemeanor.

She is accused of taking a package from a home Dec. 10, a theft caught on a home surveillance camera, police said.

The investigation began in the first week of December as police received three separate package theft reports in the 4th Ward neighborhood.

Police used the footage from the home surveillance camera to identify Devarney as the suspect in that case. Officers on routine patrol Wednesday spotted Devarney on foot leaving a store on Market Street, stopped her and took her into custody.

The investigation into the other two cases remains ongoing and further charges are possible, police said.

Devarney was released to appear in court next month.
