State Police: Baby killed in Washington County fire; 2-year-old taken to Westchester for treatment

HEBRON – A 4-month-old child was killed and a 2-year-old boy was severely injured in a Tuesday morning house fire, state police said.

A 21-year-old was also injured, police said.

State police identified the baby as Richard H. Ringer, IV. The baby died at the scene.

The 2-year-old, identified as Maxwell Smith, was initially taken to Glens Falls Hospital for smoke inhalation, but later transferred to Westchester Medical Center for further treatment, state police said. 

The 21-year-old, identified as Tori Morehouse, was taken to Glens Falls Hospital for smoke inhalation, state police said.

The initial call for the fire came in at about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the Town of Hebron, along the Vermont border.

There were no other occupants in the home at the time.

Hebron, Salem and Hartford fire departments responded to extinguish the fire and Granville Rescue assisted at the scene. The residence is a total loss, state police said.

The investigation into the fire and its cause continues by the state police with assistance from state fire and the Washington County Bureau of Fire.
