HALFMOON — Town resident Dorothea Roberts, age 73, was pronounced dead early Christmas morning at the scene of a fire at her single-family home.
State Police confirmed Friday that Dorothea Roberts was at home Christmas Eve with her daughter Evelyn Spika, 53, when a fire broke out.
“Spika woke to heavy smoke but was able to get out of the single family residence in time,” state police said in a news release. “Spika and responding Troopers were unable to re-enter the residence due to heavy smoke and fire.”
Halfmoon Fire Department and Clifton Park-Waterford Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the fire.
Spika was transported to Albany Medical Center by Med Flight for treatment of smoke inhalation.
“The investigation into the fire and its cause continues with Saratoga County Fire Investigations Unit assisting,” state police said Friday.
An autopsy for Dorothea Roberts was scheduled for Saturday at Saratoga Hospital.
