WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko spoke out via Twitter about the pro-Trump mom that stormed the U.S. Capital, calling what happened an “unprecedented assault” and “nothing less than an attempted coup.”
Tonko, D-Amsterdam, also described his experience inside the House chamber at the time of the attack.
In a series of six tweets sent out shortly after 10 p.m., and after the House reconvened, Tonko also pointed directly at President Trump, calling for his immediate impeachment and removal.
Tonko’s six tweets:
As the crowd forced its way inside, the doors to our House chamber were locked and my colleagues and I were asked to hide under chairs to prevent being struck by stray bullets.

.
Today’s violence was not isolated, it has been the culmination of years of Donald Trump fanning the flames of suspicion, conspiracy and division for his own political gain.
