ROTTERDAM — A lottery player won $70,851 after drawing Quick Pick numbers at the Price Chopper on Altamont Avenue Wednesday.
The second-prize victory comes as the New York State Lottery’s jackpot reached $15.4 million, causing more “casual players” to buy tickets, according to Brad Maione, director of communications for the New York State Gaming Commission.
“It’s encouraging to see a win locally as we’re based in Schenectady,” Maione said.
Sales have been “brisk” around the state, Maione said, given that the Mega Millions has reached a near-record jackpot of $750 million and the Powerball jackpot is at $640 million.
Price Chopper/Market 32 has sold many winning tickets to customers over the years, said Mona Golub, vice president of public relations and consumer services. She called the news of Wednesday’s victory “wonderful.”
“It’s always thrilling when one of our customers picks a winning lottery ticket,” Golub said.
Maione is expecting a “busy day” Friday ahead of the Mega Millions drawing at 11 p.m.
