SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Skidmore men’s hockey team will play a 10-game schedule this season, the school announced Tuesday.

The Thoroughbreds’ regular 2020-21 schedule was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

They are one of eight teams that will play an independent 10-game schedule. The other teams participating are Albertus Magnus, Anna Maria, Babson, Castleton, New England College, Norwich and Plymouth State. Skidmore will play Albertus Magnus, Norwich and Castleton. There won’t be standings kept, and there won’t be a postseason.

Skidmore’s first game will be Feb. 26 at Norwich. The Thoroughbreds’ home opener will be the next day against Norwich. Fans won’t be allowed at Skidmore’s home games.

“It’s certainly been a long off-season and we couldn’t be more excited to get back into a bit more of a routine & some game action,” Skidmore coach Rob Hutchison said in a press release. “There’s been a tremendous amount of work done by so many to salvage some form of a season and we are thankful for the opportunity to play.

“In choosing to play, Athletic Director Gail Cummings-Danson and President Conner, are saying loudly ‘athletics matter’ here at Skidmore, and it’s incredibly meaningful to our guys.”
