ALBANY – A 15-year-old boy in Albany has been arrested in connection with an incident where an 8-year-old boy shot himself in the hand, police said Wednesday.
The 8-year-old was treated at the scene and taken to Albany Medical Center for evaluation, police said.
Police believe the 8-year-old shot himself in the hand Dec. 25, but then Child Protective Services responded Dec. 31 to a home on Delaware Avenue for a report of a boy who had suffered an injury to his hand, police said.
The investigation soon determined that the boy had accidently shot himself in the hand with a handgun he’d located in the pocket of a coat that belonged to the 15-year-old, police said.
The 15-year-old was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree reckless endangerment, police said.
The 15-year-old was also charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation from August.
The 15-year-old is to be arraigned in Albany County Family Court.
