LOUDONVILLE — Following Friday’s announcement of more positive COVID-19 test results within the Siena women’s basketball program’s Tier 1 personnel group, the MAAC announced Saturday morning a new round of schedule changes for its women’s basketball teams.
The Saints’ next scheduled game is Wednesday at Monmouth. Siena head coach Ali Jaques said Friday night that she expects the Saints to have six available players for that game, and those players are all Saints who have previously tested positive for the novel coronavirus and have been cleared to play.
The MAAC’s rule is that if a team has eight able-to-play scholarship players, it must play its scheduled games. Teams, though, can elect to play with six or seven available scholarship players — but not fewer than six.
Among other changes to its schedule, Siena’s games this weekend at Quinnipiac that were postponed will now be played Feb. 19-20.
Siena is 2-2 on the season. The team’s fifth game is currently scheduled to be played on the 71st day that Division I basketball teams are allowed to compete this season. Teams need to play a minimum of 13 games to be eligible for the NCAA tournament.
