ALBANY – Five people were shot, one fatally, in a shooting late Saturday night, police said.

The shooting happened at about 11 p.m. at a building in the 200 block of Central Avenue, just west of Robin Street, police said.

Arriving officers found three women, ages 27, 32 and 37, all with gunshot wounds, police said. The three were taken to Albany Medical Center.

The 32-year-old woman, identified later as Albany resident Shanita Thomas, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The two other women’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Shortly after the call, police received notice from Albany Medical Center staff that two men, ages 30 and 33, had just entered the emergency room with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, police said.

Police soon determined that both men were shot in the same incident on Central Avenue.

The investigation remained ongoing Sunday. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 518-462-8039.
