ROTTERDAM – Rotterdam town officials are warning residents not to send personal information, including drivers’ license or social security numbers after someone appears to have posed as town over in emails Friday.
Officials described someone asking for residents’ driver’s license numbers or social security numbers in an email.
“The Town of Rotterdam would never ask for your driver’s license number or social security number in an email,” the town wrote in a release.
Anyone who received an email seeking your driver’s license number or social security number should contact the Rotterdam Police Department at 518-630-0911.
The town also directed residents to further information from the state on how to avoid online scams like phishing, including from the Department of State Division on Consumer Protection and the state Office of the Attorney General.
