Colonie Police: Schenectady, Rensselaer men face weapons counts after traffic stop; Gun recovered

COLONIE – Two men, one from Schenectady, were arrested Saturday on drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop in Colonie, police said.

Dorrel O. Williams, 29, of Schenectady, and Shaimeek J. Collins, 22, of Rensselaer, each face a total four felonies, police said.

Police stopped the pair just after midnight Saturday morning on Sand Creek Road after spotting multiple vehicle and traffic violations, police said. A check of the driver, identified as Williams, soon showed he had an active warrant out of Schenectady, police said.

A search of the vehicle uncovered cocaine, Xanax pills, ecstasy pills, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an unloaded .22 caliber handgun, police said.

The handgun had been intentionally defaced to make the serial number illegible, police said.

Willilams and the passenger, Collins, were both arrested and charged with one count each of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, felonies, along with two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies. and two misdemeanors.

The two were arraigned and Williams was released to probation supervision and Collins on his own recognizance.
