UAlbany softball selected fourth in America East coaches’ poll

The University at Albany softball team was picked to finish fourth in the America East Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference announced Thursday.

The Great Danes earned 20 points.

Stony Brook was selected as the favorite, earning five of the six first-place votes and collecting 35 points. UMass Lowell was picked second with 30 points and one first-place vote. UMBC was picked third with 26 points and secured the final first-place vote.

Binghamton was fifth with 19 points, followed by Maine (nine points) and Hartford (eight points).

The Great Danes’ 2020 season was interrupted after 11 games, in which the team went 6-5, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

UAlbany is scheduled to open the 2021 season at the Winthrop Tournament starting Feb. 26.
