ALBANY — The UAlbany women’s basketball program will continue to pause in-person team activities until Feb. 19, the school’s athletic department announced Thursday.
On Tuesday, the school had announced that the team had an individual with a presumptive positive test for COVID-19, but Thursday the university confirmed the Great Danes had “a positive COVID-19 test result within the team’s Tier 1 personnel group.”
The team’s games this weekend had already been canceled because the scheduled opponent — Hartford — canceled the remainder of its season earlier this week. Hartford is the third America East Conference women’s basketball program to end its season, as UMBC and Vermont previously made that decision.
The following weekend’s games for UAlbany against NJIT have been postponed. The team’s schedule beyond that is currently unknown, as the America East is scheduling incrementally for the remainder of its regular season.
UAlbany is 5-5 in America East play and 6-8 overall. The team had a stretch of more than three weeks between its sixth and seventh games because of a program pause, but had played games on four consecutive weekends before its most-recent pause.
The UAlbany men’s basketball program resumed practicing last week after a pause of its own. The men’s team is scheduled to play UMass Lowell this weekend.
