High schools: Schenectady boys’ basketball beats Averill Park

Schenectady came out strong to start the second half to put its Suburban Council boys’ game at Averill Park out of reach en route to a 48-37 win.

Damari Holder led the Patriots with 21 points.

Marquis Hamby led a trio of scorers in double figures for Troy in a 61-40 road win against Niskayuna.

CBA steadily expanded its lead over Columbia on its way to a 60-26 victory.

As the Brothers’ defense held the Blue Devils’ down, Hagen Foley had his way en route to 27 points.

Despite a 29-point night from Sam McGarrahan, Schuylerville dropped a 59-46 Foothills Council matchup to South Glens Falls.

T.J. Kelley and Jake Houle scored 22 and 20 points, respectively, to propel Waterford-Halfmoon past Saratoga Central Catholic 57-48.

Robbie Bolen III had 20 points for the Saints.

Alex Barnhill poured in 18 of his game-high 26 points in the second half to push Mekeel Christian Academy past Schalmont 65-58 in a non-league contest.

Tyler Pepicelli paced the Sabres with 17 points, including five of the team’s nine threes.

Galway swept its season-opening home-and-home against Corinth 57-26 behind another strong performance from Brendan Shader. Shader finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, completing the series with 39 points over the two nights.

In Suburban Council girls’ basketball action, Averill Park locked down on the defensive end to take down Schenectady 63-24. The Warriors’ also received a commanding offensive performance from Amelia Wood, who finished with 22 points.

Janessa Jones scored 11 points for the Patriots.

Olivia Olsen delivered 34 points for Niskayuna as it pulled away from Troy in the second half for a 57-39 win.

Jenalyse Alarcon led the Flying Horses with 14.

Meghan Huerter hit six 3-pointers by as the senior scored 22 to lead Shenendehowa past Saratoga Springs 65-53.

The Blue Streaks’ Natasha Chudy led all scorers with 29 points.

In Foothills Council action, South Glens Falls powered its way past Schuylerville 71-24.

Sydney Hart and Hannah Breen led the Bulldogs with 26 points and 19 points, respectively.

In the Wasaren League, the trio of Ashley Upson (15 points), Molly O’Reilly (13), Ryleigh Dempsey (12) paced Saratoga Central Catholic to victory over Waterford-Halfmoon 57-34.

Mekeel Christian Academy got a road win at Mohonasen in non-league play 43-37. Promise Mitchell dropped in a game-high 17 points for the Lions. Maraya Davis added 12.

Shenendehowa defeated Saratoga Springs in Suburban Council boys’ swimming 103-71. Ryan Eldred pulled out two individual victories for the Plainsmen in the 50 and 100 free, as well as swimming on two top relays of the meet in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. He was joined on the medley relay by another multi-event winner, Ethan Rogowski, who took home triumphs in the 100 back and 100 fly.

Calvin and Connor Baird paced the Blue Streaks. The pair were on the team’s winning 400 freestyle relay team, Connor won the 200 individual medley, and they also combined for three individual second-place finishes and a second place in the 200 free relay.

Adam Lovless had the high triple with a 674, and Mark Sgambato had the top single with a 255 in Gloversville’s 4-0 win over Hudson Falls in a Foothills Council boys’ bowling match.
