SCHENECTADY – City police are investigating a shots-fired incident Thursday afternoon at the Central Park basketball courts.

No one is believed to have been hurt, police said.

The incident happened just after 3 p.m.

The call came in as an argument between a group of about 15 to 20 individuals who appeared about to fight, police said. Less than a minute after the initial call, other callers reported hearing gunshots in the area.

Police responded and attempted to stop two vehicles leaving the area. One fled and ultimately hit a snowbank and stopped in the area of Albany and Seldon streets, police said.

The man inside that vehicle was taken to the Schenectady Police Department for further investigation, police said.

The second vehicle also fled from officers and a brief pursuit ensued. Officers, however, stopped the chase on the Thruway. The vehicle continued east on the Thruway, police said.

At the scene of the shooting, police found several shell casings in the area of the basketball courts.

The incident remained under investigation later Thursday, police said.
