Playing for the first time in the gym where his dad led state championship teams, Jaden Giammattei scored a team-high 13 points to lead visiting Niskayuna past Scotia-Glenville 55-45 in a non-league boys’ basketball game Friday.
“My dad did so many great things there,” the senior guard said of Jim Giammattei, who guided Scotia-Glenville teams to consecutive state Class A titles in 2014 and 2015. “To be at his old stomping grounds, it was special. It was a special experience.”
Several years ago Jaden Giammattei had played in the old Scotia-Glenville gym as a member of the Niskayuna freshman team that his dad was helping coach. In the main gym Friday, he scored 10 of his 13 points in the middle quarters when Niskayuna turned a 14-7 deficit into a 34-30 lead.
“My dad has always supported me, and I’m glad he was there for it,” Jaden Giammattei said. “He told me I had a good game.”
Jaden Giammattei’s season-high 13 points included three 3-point baskets.
“I was in the right spots at the right times, and my teammates found me,” Jaden Giammattei said. “I was focused on trying to do what I needed to do to help my team win.”
For the Tartans, Antonio Cianfarini scored a game-high 19 points. Niskayuna’s Jack Allen had a dozen points.
