School hockey: Shenendehowa picks up victory

CLIFTON PARK — The Shenendehowa ice hockey team scored three unanswered goals in the second period Friday afternoon at Capital Ice Arena on its way to a 5-2 CDHSHL win over the Niskayuna/Schenectady/Amsterdam Mohawks.

Senior forward Ryan Saelens assisted on Freddie Hicks’ initial goal of the period and again on Nolan Sullivan’s tally to take a 3-1 lead.

The Mohawks’ Sanzio DiGesualdo cut the Plainsmen lead to 3-2 with his unassisted goal with 15 seconds left in the second period. Shenendehowa scored a pair of goals in the third, including an empty-net tally with 1:23 left in the contest.

Mohawks goalie John Blouch had 35 saves in the loss. Shenendehowa goalie Lucas Lasher had 26 saves.
