UAlbany women’s basketball returns to league play, falls at Stony Brook

Playing in its first game since Feb. 7, the UAlbany women’s basketball team lost 58-46 Monday at Stony Brook.

A few days since ending its most-recent pause, the Great Danes only trailed by a point heading into the final quarter and took their final lead of the game when guard Kyara Frames made a basket to put UAlbany up 44-43 with 5:19 left. Back-to-back 3-pointers followed for Stony Brook as part of an 8-0 run, and UAlbany never was closer than five points in the final 3:50.

Anastasia Warren had a game-high 21 points for Stony Brook (10-3 America East, 12-5 overall), while UAlbany (5-6, 6-9) received 16 points from Helene Haegerstrand.

UAlbany and Stony Brook meet again Tuesday on Long Island in the regular-season finale for both teams. After that, Stony Brook will be the No. 2 seed for the America East playoffs, while UAlbany will be the No. 4 seed.
