2 UAlbany women’s basketball players earn America East recognition

ALBANY — A pair of UAlbany women’s basketball players received individual honors Friday.

The America East Conference announced its award winners and all-conference teams, and Great Danes sophomore Helene Haegerstrand was a third-team all-conference selection and freshman Kayla Cooper was named to the all-rookie team.

Haegerstrand averaged 10.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for UAlbany, which is the No. 4 seed for the conference tournament and will host No. 5 New Hampshire on Sunday.

Cooper averaged 5.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Maine’s Blanca Millan was named the league’s Player and Defensive Player of the Year, Stony Brook’s McKenzie Bushee was recognized as Sixth Player of the Year, Vermont’s Anna Olson earned Rookie of the Year and Maine’s Amy Vachon was named Coach of the Year.
