ALBANY — Bryar Hogg’s goal with 3:27 remaining in overtime lifted UAlbany to a 13-12 victory over New Hampshire in an America East women’s lacrosse season opener on Saturday.
Hogg’s third goal of the game was assisted by Katie Pascale.
“We knew our first America East game was going to be a really good matchup against a really good New Hampshire team,” said UAlbany head coach Katie Rowan Thomson. “I thought, overall, we had a really great game plan.”
The Great Danes (1-0, 3-2) built a 9-5 lead in the first half as Sarah Falk scored four of her five goals. But New Hampshire (0-2, 1-2) forced overtime by outscoring UAlbany 7-3 in the second half. Hogg gave UAlbany a 12-10 lead with a goal at the 8:10 mark, but Julia Neyland found the net for the Wildcats at 3:28 and 2:23 to tie the score.
In overtime, after forcing a turnover on the defensive end, UAlbany pushed the ball up the field, and Pascale found Hogg diving toward the net for the game-winner.
“UNH came out really strong in the second half, and we battled to keep it close,” Rowan Thomson said. “We had a great stop on defense in overtime before putting it away.”
Ally Alliegro had a goal and three assists and Pascale a goal and two assists for UAlbany, which outshot New Hampshire 19-15. Great Danes’ goalie Aislinn Sweeney recorded three saves, while Issy Torres had six for the Wildcats.
