ALBANY — Coming off a breakout junior season, Antonio Rizzuto has entered into the NCAA transfer portal.

Rizzuto becomes the second scholarship UAlbany men’s basketball player to enter into the transfer portal this offseason, which started last week with the dismissal of long-time head coach Will Brown. Previously, redshirt junior Cameron Healy entered into the transfer portal.

Rizzuto’s decision to head into the transfer portal was first reported by 247sports.com, while a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed the development to The Daily Gazette.

Rizzuto did not immediately respond Monday to requests for comment. It’s possible he could still opt to return to UAlbany. Regardless of where he plays next season, Rizzuto will have two seasons of playing eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-3 junior was a second-team all-conference selection this season in the America East Conference. The Great Danes’ captain averaged 12.5 points per game and shot 36.2% from 3-point territory during UAlbany’s 7-9 campaign.

Rizzuto is a cousin of Jon Iati, the program’s former associate head coach who is currently serving as UAlbany’s interim head coach.

This past weekend, UAlbany athletic director Mark Benson said the school’s search for its next men’s basketball head coach had “received tremendous interest from all across the country” and that the school’s athletic department planned to start evaluating its pool of applicants this week.

“At this point, we feel like we have a good pool of candidates that we’re interested in and are interested in us,” Benson said Saturday.
