ALBANY — The UAlbany women’s lacrosse team started the game on a 5-0 run and never looked back on the way to an 18-7 victory over Hofstra at Fallon Field on Tuesday.
Kyla Zapolski scored five goals and assisted on another for the Great Danes, who improved to 4-2 overall, Sarah Falk scored three goals and Shenendehowa graduate Kendra Harbinger had two goals and three assists.
Bryar Hogg opened the scoring 5:17 into the first half, and Falk, Zapolski, Harbinger and Madison Conway kept the run going until Hofstra (2-1) finally got on the board mdway through the half.
Falk and Conway scored again before intermission to give UAlbany a 7-2 halftime lead.
“I’m so proud of the team’s effort for coming out and playing a full 60 minutes from top to bottom,” UAlbany coach Katie Rowan Thomson said. “The bench was electric all game and the women on this team are so supportive and empowering to one another. Today’s game displayed the potential within this program and it is really exciting to see the grown we’ve had in this first third of the season. We will use this game to build momentum as we move primarily into conference games.”
Hofstra scored 32 seconds into the second half, but the Great Danes rattled off four straight goals to maintain control.
Aislinn Sweeney had 15 saves for UAlbany.
