Troopers identified the driver killed as Quinn H. Morgan, 37, of Jefferson.

State police had been looking for Morgan since Monday, when family had reported that she did not return home, troopers said.

The one-car crash happened was discovered just before 3 p.m. Wednesday on West Kill Road in Jefferson, state police said.

The preliminary investigation showed Morgan was traveling west on West Kill Road when she left the northern shoulder and struck a tree head-on, state police said. She died at the scene.

State police investigators believe the accident happened a few days prior to its discovery.

She was located by a passerby walking along the road and the scene had been obscured by tree branches and snow accumulation, but became visible after recent snow melt, state police said.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation, state police said.
