High schools: Schenectady girls’ volleyball wins

In the season-opening match of its “Fall II” season, the Schenectady girls’ volleyball team earned a 25-14, 25-15, 25-23 victory Tuesday against Averill Park.

In the Suburban Council win, Marisa Gannon led Schenectady with 20 assists, while Gelmajony Marrero Martinez had nine digs and seven kills. Also for Schenectady, Shannon McCloskey added seven kills, Savannah Petersen had six digs and Kanishjoary Marrero Martinez registered five kills.

For Averill Park, Anna Jankovic had 16 digs, and Allison Lapinski contributed 13 assists.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, playing for the first time since it won the 2019 Class A state championship, defeated Bethlehem 25-14, 25-7, 25-8. Claire Isaksen totaled 23 assists in the win, while Carlie Rzeszotarski had 10 kills and four aces.

Niskayuna won 25-20, 22-25, 25-13, 25-21 against Columbia. Cat Schiavi led Niskayuna with 19 kills, while Laura Mason had 20 digs, Anjali Kurian had 19 assists and Katie Atchinson added 18 assists.

In Foothills Council action, Scotia-Glenville defeated Amsterdam 25-13, 25-16, 25-22. Mia Wood had 18 service points, and Shanna Ludovici had five assists and nine service points in the win.

Gloversville topped Broadalbin-Perth 25-21, 25-8, 25-17. Aireana Muhlberger led Gloversville with 23 assists and six aces, while Macey Salvione added 12 digs and seven kills, and Madelyn Avery collected 12 digs and seven kills. For Broadalbin-Perth, Lily Mitchell had 14 assists and seven digs, while Kelsey Hinderliter contributed 13 digs.

Johnstown field hockey won its season-opening game. Kalena Eaton scored the lone goal in Johnstown’s 1-0 Foothills Council win against Queensbury.

Scotia-Glenville scored an 11-0 Foothills Council boys’ soccer win against Johnstown. Sam Storti had four goals and three assists in the win, while Kofi Jack added four goals and an assist.

Glens Falls won 2-0 against Hudson Falls. Off assists from Cyrus Guillet, Durant Poole scored both goals.

In non-league action, Ballston Spa won 9-1 against Amsterdam. Aidan Miller scored three goals, while teammates Amir Abdellatif and Aidan Clark each had two. Alec Bartone registered Amsterdam’s goal.
