Siena women’s lacrosse suffers 1st loss

LEWISTON — The Siena women’s lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season, a 12-8 MAAC defeat Friday at Niagara.

Niagara led 8-3 at halftime and maintained at least a four-goal lead throughout the second half.

For Niagara (1-1 MAAC, 1-1 overall), Shea Swartwout scored five of her game-high six goals in the first half.

Siena (3-1, 3-1) received two goals apiece from Annie Brennan, Kaitlyn Dowsett and Mary Soures. 

Siena won 14 of 22 draw controls, but Niagara goalie Michelle Messenger stopped a dozen of Siena’s 20 shots on goal.

The teams meet again at Niagara on Sunday at noon.

Halftime score: Niagara led 8-3. Siena scoring: Dowsett 2-0, Soures 2-0, Brennan 2-1, Gerety 1-0, McNeely 1-1.
