The officer was taken to Ellis Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and released, officials said.

The ATV operator, identified as Andrew K. Leblanc, 22, of Schenectady, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and misdemeanor second-degree reckless endangerment.

The incident began Saturday, just before 4:30 p.m. as officers responded to the area of Lake Boulevard for a report of multiple ATVs being operated in an erratic manner, police said.

As officers approached the group, they fled. As they did so, one ATV struck the officer, police said.

NYS Workers Compensation is a nightmare that I would not wish on the Schenectady Police Officer that was injured on the job.
