High schools: Schenectady girls’ volleyball sweeps Colonie

The Schenectady girls’ volleyball battled to a 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 Suburban Council victory over Colonie on Friday.

Gelmajony Marrero led the Patriots with 22 kills, Marisa Gannon organized the floor with a game-high 28 assists, and Savannah Petersen had 21 digs.

Schenectady moves to 4-1 in league on the season.

Cat Schiavi had 19 kills and five aces to lead Niskayuna past Ballston Spa in straight sets 25-23, 25-17, 25-21 and improve to 3-1.

Ava Schewe had four blocks for the Silver Warriors, and Anjana Kurian had 32 assists.

Ballston Spa’s Sarah Bozzo had four aces and 16 assists and Anna Pilkey contributed 17 digs.

Guilderland overcame a first-set loss to beat Troy in four 21-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-18 and remain undefeated.

Emily Norgrove had 16 kills, 10 service points, and nine digs for Guilderland. Caitlin Price had a game-high seven blocks for the hosts.

Senior Allison Lapinski distributed 14 assists. Fellow seniors Emma Burdick and Anna Jankovic had six and five kills, respectively.

Tamarac captured its third win of the season at Mechanicville in a battle of early season undefeated teams in Wasaren League girls volleyball 25-20, 8-25, 25-23.

Allie Motzer had 12 assists for Tamarac.

Waterford-Halfmoon opened up its season with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-14 victory on the road at Hoosic Valley.

Senior Annie Naughton had 12 service points and eight aces to lead Saratoga Central Catholic to a 25-23, 25-16, 25-16 season-opening win over Stillwater.

Schalmont and La Salle dueled to a double-overtime 2-2 stalemate in Colonial Council boys’ soccer.

The Sabres received scoring from Paulie Brosious and Troy Leonard, both helped by Sam Parisi. Luke Micklas and Alexander Rotondi found the back of the net for the Cadets.

Schalmont goalie Christian Tortorici turned aside 14 shots, while La Salle’s Kaleb Rock stopped eight.

Andrew Kraszewski netted four goals to pace Mechanicville to a 10-0 victory over Hoosic Valley in Wasaren League action.

Glenn Prairie and the Red Raiders’ defense turned in their third straight shutout to begin the campaign.

Hoosic Valley’s netminder Tommy Rice made 20 saves.

Galway scored three straight goals on either side of halftime to pull away from Middleburgh and win 4-2 in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Braden Boudreau and Rowan Smith each had a goal and an assist for the Golden Eagles.

Freshman Olivia Sidoti led Voorheesville with a hat trick and an assist in its 8-2 win over Catholic Central in Colonial Council girls’ soccer.

Sidoti’s older sister Abby scored a goal. Lily Farrell, another freshman, added a two goals, and her sister Emma contributed a goal and three assists.

Catholic Central’s goalie Maddie Finn made 25 saves.
