COLONIE – An Albany youth coach has been charged with sexual assault of a 15-year-old in Colonie, police said.
Amgad S. Abdalla, 29, of Albany, also known as “Coach Ali” and “Ali”, was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree criminal sexual act, a felony, along with misdemeanor sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
Abdella was active in the local youth soccer program The Albany Warriors, police said.
Police arrested Abdalla after first receiving a complaint early Sunday of an assault that had taken place a day earlier, police said.
After an investigation, police determined Abdella had sexually assaulted a victim under the age of 15, police said. The incident took place at a motel in Colonie, police said.
The Albany Warriors are an independent youth (U19) soccer club financially sponsored by the Ballston Spa Soccer Club. Abdalla did not coach for any other teams, or have any interaction with members of the Ballston Spa teams, police said.
Abdalla was known to those in the soccer community as “Coach Ali” and performed both in coaching and social worker/mentor roles within his team, police said.
Police indicated they are not aware of any other victims. However, due to the nature of the allegations and the access he had to a vulnerable population, police asked that anyone with information related to the investigation or who knows someone else who has been victimized, to contact Colonie police at 518-783-2754 or the local police department.
Abdalla was arraigned and ordered held on bail.
