SCHAGHTICOKE – A Halfmoon man drowned Thursday afternoon in the Hudson River at Schaghticoke, state police said.

Troopers identified the man who died as Zachary J. Esposito, 27, of Halfmoon.

Authorities were called to the River Road area at about 2:35 p.m. Thursday for a report of a man who had fallen into the river while fishing and had not surfaced, state police said.

Troopers, with the assistance of multiple fire companies and the Department of Environmental Conservation, searched the area and found the victim in the water deceased, state police said.

The incident remained under investigation Friday.
