School football: Mechanicville edges Johnstown 14-12


Mechanicville registered a 14-12 Section II Class C football win Friday against Johnstown.

Sean Shutter-Quinlivan recovered a fumble in the end zone for Mechanicville’s touchdown in the first quarter, while Luciano D’Ambro scored on a short run in the fourth. D’Ambro also ran for a 2-point conversion after Shutter-Quinlivan’s touchdown, while all other point-after attempts failed in the game.

For Johnstown, Caden Mureness ran for a short score in the second quarter and connected with Chase Benton on a 9-yard touchdown pass in the fourth.

Six different Shaker players scored touchdowns in the team’s 49-0 Class AA win against Schenectady, while Connor Strand scored a pair of touchdowns.

In a Class A game, Burnt Hills led 42-0 at halftime on its way to a 55-14 win against Mohonasen. The Spartans improved to 4-0 on the season.

Troy improved to 4-0 with a 49-13 victory against Columbia after only leading 14-7 at halftime.

Hudson won 37-8 against Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk in a Class B matchup and Hoosick Falls/Tamarac won 45-3 against Coxsackie-Athens in a Class C game.
