Woman’s body found along Mohawk River at Fort Hunter, Montgomery County Sheriff says

FORT HUNTER – The body of a woman was found along the Mohawk River at Fort Hunter Wednesday morning and authorities are working to determine what happened, Montgomery County Sheriff Jeffery Smith said.

Investigators have identified the woman, Smith said. Her name was not immediately released Wednesday evening, though Smith described her as in her 30s.

Authorities responded to the area just after 10 a.m. for a report of a potential body in or near the river, Smith said.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies and state police responded. They found the body on the south side of the river at the hamlet, east of the locks. The body was on edge of the river, by the water, just barely touching the water, Smith said.

The Sheriff’s office and the state police are jointly working on the investigation, Smith said.

“At this point, the investigation is continuing and we’re doing everything we can to try to figure out what took place,” Smith said.
