ALBANY — Tom Menas has been named as the head coach and general manager of the National Arena League’s Albany Empire, the team announced Friday.
Menas replaces Rob Keefe, who resigned Sunday. Keefe guided the Empire to the final Arena Football League’s ArenaBowl title in 2019. The league folded shortly after the season ended. The Empire joined the NAL in 2020.
Menas comes to Albany from the IFL’s Green Bay Blizzard, where he served as their offensive/defensive line and special teams coach. Prior to the IFL, Menas served as a head Oakland County Racers as well as Oakland (Mich.) University.
“It’s an honor to be selected as the Albany Empire’s new head coach and general manager,” Menas said in a press release. “I consider Albany to be the pinnacle of indoor football and look forward to a long tenure with the team. The Capital Region fans are the best there is, and we look forward to being a part of this community.”
Menas spent time in the Canadian Football League with the Toronto Argonauts as their defensive line coach, and in the AFL with the Detroit Fury as their linebackers and running backs coach. He helped lead the Fury to a playoff berth in their inaugural season.
