Schenectady Police seek help in two shootings; One person injured

A man was taken to Albany Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries after Schenectady Police said he was shot. It was the second shooting the department investigated Saturday morning.

While police did not release the victim’s name, they said he was 23, according to a press release from the department. Officers responded around 5 a.m. to Ellis Hospital after being told a man had walked into the hospital with a gunshot wound to the back. The man was eventually taken to Albany Medical Center. Police said they were able to determine that the shooting occurred on the 700 block of State Street. The investigation is ongoing.

Just hours before, at 12:14 a.m., police responded to Columbia Street for reports of shots being fired. Police said that when they arrived on scene they located multiple shell casings at the intersection of Columbia and Poplar streets. Police said no injuries from this incident have been reported.

The detective division is currently investigating both shootings. Police are asking anyone with information to call the department’s tip line at 518-788-6566.
