
MONTGOMERY COUNTY – An Amsterdam woman stole more than $65,000 in child care benefits over more than four years, Montgomery County Sheriff’s officials said Thursday.

Ensure access to everything we do, today and every day, check out our subscribe page at DailyGazette.com/SubscribeTing Yam, 30, of Amsterdam, was charged last Friday with one count each of second-degree welfare fraud and second-degree grand larceny, both felonies, as well as 14 counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, also felonies.
Yam is accused of illegally taking the child care benefits by filing false applications between September 2015 and March 2020, officials said.
In all, she is accused of taking $65,139 that she wasn’t entitled to, officials said.
Yam was arraigned and released to return to court later.
The arrest was the result of a joint investigation between the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Social Services Fraud Investigation Unit and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
