High schools: Niskayuna girls’ volleyball advances in Suburban Council tournament

Cat Schiavi racked up 29 kills, 17 digs and three aces, leading the Niskayuna girls’ volleyball team to a 25-15, 25-23, 14-25, 25-21 victory over Ballston Spa on Tuesday to advance in the Suburban Council championship tournament.

Laura Mason added 21 digs, Anajana Kurian provided 23 assists and 13 digs, and Anjali Kurian dished out 19 assists for Niskayuna, which will face Shenendehowa in the semifinals.

Anna Pilkey led Ballston Spa with 12 kills and 14 digs.

Top-seeded Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake also advanced with a 25-7, 25-9, 25-12 win over Averill Park. Burnt Hills’ Claire Isaksen surpassed 2,500 assists for her career during the match. The 18-0 Spartans also got 10 kills and five aces from Carlie Rzeszotarki.

Burnt Hills’ semifinal opponent will be Columbia, a 25-22, 25-15, 25-27, 22-25, 25-22 winner over Guilderland thanks to 17 kills from Mikayla Kendrick and 50 assists from Arricca Silliman. Emily Norgove led Guilderland with 20 kills and 22 digs.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons girls’ volleyball concluded its season with a 25-7, 25-8, 25-14 Western Athletic Conference win over OESJ. Gabby Correra served up six aces for Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons, which got six kills apiece from Juliana Tortello, Ayanna Jackson, Adia Corbin and Victoria Jaworowski. Kaydence Souza led OESJ with five kills and 17 digs.

Galway improved to a perfect 11-0 in WAC play with a 25-7, 25-16, 25-5 win over Duanesburg, led by 13 kills from Julia Reedy.

Saratoga Central Catholic got 10 service points, 10 assists and a pair of aces from Catherine Darcy in a 25-12, 25-16, 25-8 non-league win over Corinth. Molly O’Reilly added four aces among her 13 service points for the Saints.

Xavier DeLuca scored twice, and Kofi Jack had a pair of assists for Scotia-Glenville in a 3-0 Foothills Council boys’ soccer win over Broadalbin-Perth. Zach Place made five saves to record the shutout for the Tartans, while Broadalbin-Perth goalie Ian Schwartz made four stops.

Sam Tyler headed home the game-winner off a corner kick by Liam Armstrong in the 73rd minute as Schuylerville notched a 2-1 win over Glens Falls. Cam Wian also scored for Schuylerville, while Ian Collins found the back of the net for Glens Falls.

In the Wasaren League quarterfinals, Andrew Kraszewski had a hat trick for Mechanicville, which scored five times after halftime in a 6-1 win over Stillwater. TJ Bisaillon added two goals for Mechanicville, while Grant Baker scored for Stillwater.

Jaycen Janusz had two goals and an assist for Waterford-Halfmoon in the Fordians’ 3-2 win over Hoosic Valley. Joshua Catanzarita added a goal and an assist in the win.

Fort Plain’s Kaleb Galt and Cameron David scored first-half goals, and Robert Jordan posted a shutout with seven saves as the Hilltoppers grabbed a 2-0 Western Athletic Conference victory against Fonda-Fultonville.

In a non-league game, Bethlehem got two goals from Kevin Mattis and a goal and three assists from Ryan Jeffers to pace a 7-0 victory over Johnstown. Cam Sweet made nine saves for Johnstown.

Brooke Bush scored a goal and assisted on Lauralie Grainer’s goal as Broadalbin-Perth girls’ soccer topped Amsterdam 2-0 in Foothills Council action.

Christina Cummings scored all four goals, and Brigid Duffy provided three assists for Queensbury in a 4-2 non-league win over Ballston Spa.

The Stillwater boys and Greenwich girls won team titles at the Wasaren League cross country championships, with individual titles going to Berlin/New Lebanon’s Matthew Kluck (16:29.4) in the boys’ race and Greenwich’s Nina Sgambelluri (16:15.7) in the girls’ race.
