LATHAM — With a late touchdown and 2-point conversion, Guilderland secured a 22-21 win Friday against Shaker in the Section II Class AA football championship game.

Logan Broomhall passed for a 14-yard touchdown to Marcus McClaine with 1:28 to play, then Broomhall rushed for the go-ahead 2-point conversion to put the Dutchmen ahead.

Guilderland’s comeback win avenged the team’s only loss of the season, a 35-25 defeat in Week 2.

Guilderland (5-1) led Shaker (6-1) 13-7 after three quarters, but Shaker scored 13 unanswered points to start the fourth on touchdowns from Dean Hartl.

Broomhall ran for Guilderland’s first two touchdowns, which were sandwiched around a score from Shaker’s Connor Strand.

Guilderland had lost to Shenendehowa in the 2019 Section II large-school title game, and avenged that setback in last week’s semifinal round where Shaker defeated CBA.
