STILLWATER — Rodney Parker ran 74 yards for the tying touchdown early in the fourth quarter, Ryan Shultis followed with the extra point, and Schalmont held on to edge Glens Falls 29-28 Friday night in a season-ending game matching unbeaten Class B football teams.

Schalmont completed a 5-0 season after rallying from 6-0, 14-8 and 28-22 deficits.

“We told our kids to keep their emotions in check because there is going to be some adversity,” Schalmont coach Joe Whipple said. “They kept grinding away and kept believing in each other.”

Parker ran 25 times for 256 yards and scored two touchdowns. Trent Randle threw touchdown passes to Max Pratt and Sean Willis in the final 24 seconds of the first half with a kickoff fumble recovery in between those scoring plays.

“We tried to be solid on special teams, tackle well and take advantage of opportunities,” Whipple said. “We played well in all facets.”

Glens Falls came in 4-0, and, like Schalmont, had yet to be seriously tested leading up to the showdown.

“It meant something to play a quality team like Glens Falls and beat them to finish off our season,” Whipple said.

Griffin Woodell ran for two Glens Falls touchdowns. Noah Girard threw touchdown passes to Jackson Brand and Aalijah Sampson, with that second connection covering 21 yards and giving the Indians a 28-22 lead in the third quarter.

“The kids persevered and did a nice job,” Whipple said.
