Mohonasen scored first and last, but Holy Names found the net three times in between to post a 3-2 win Friday in the Colonial Council girls’ soccer championship game.

Marissa DeMartino and Maddie Stalmer had first-half goals for Holy Names, and Nikita Granich scored to make it 3-1 in the second half.

“They have some phenomenal players,” Mohonasen coach Clint DeMyer said of Holy Names. “It looked like they had 13 of them out there at times.”

Matti Muller, who moved from midfield to striker halfway through the “Fall II” season, scored both goals for Mohonasen, including a second-half penalty kick. The senior also scored when the Mighty Warriors tied Holy Names last week 1-1.

“I’ve had her since she was a freshman, and I can’t say enough about that kid,” DeMyer said. “She adjusted to any role we asked her to fill.”

Mohonasen lost several key players from its 2019 team that won the Section II Class A championship, yet with its returning veterans and newcomers was able to put together a 9-2-2 record. DeMyer credited his group for how it adapted with its reworked roster.

“They could have rolled over and said we lost everyone,” DeMyer said. “They didn’t.”

Mohonasen’s other loss was against Schalmont.

Mohonasen beat Voorheesville in the semifinals 3-2, and Holy Names edged Schalmont 1-0.

Holy Names finished 9-2-2.
