Gloversville man charged in Thursday shooting

A Gloversville man has been charged in the Thursday shooting of a bystander, who remains hospitalized at Albany Medical Center.

Cecilio Persen, 39, of Gloversville, was arrested Friday and charged with the felonies of second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon for having a loaded firearm.

Police said Persen was charged in a shooting that occured around 7:50 a.m. Thursday near Naif’s Market on North Main Street that resulted in a woman being shot in the lower extremities.

Police said the woman, who was an innocent bystander in the shooting, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. She remains in the hospital.

“She is expected to be released within the next several days,” police said.

Police said that while no additional suspects are being sought for the shooting, the investigation into the incident continues.

The City of Gloversville Police Department is continuing to work with the New York State Police, the City of Amsterdam Police Department, the City of Albany Police Department, and the Town of Colonie Police Department on the investigation.

There was a recent article about the disproportionate number of black people commiting crimes in the area which many claim is systemic racism. Proof is in the pudding. This man was also convicted of being part of a stabbing on 2017 yet somehow was released after 4 years just to kill again.
