High schools: Jahn, Herold spark Scotia-Glenville softball win

Brenna Jahn slugged a home run, and Bella Herold had a three-RBI double to help lead Scotia-Glenville to a 12-0 Foothills Council softball win against Gloversville.

Herold had four total RBIs in the five-inning game.

Gina Cassaro had two hits, plus struck out eight batters in the victory, as Scotia-Glenville moved to 2-0 on the season.

Amsterdam’s Jordyn Wozniak had two doubles and five RBIs in Amsterdam’s 11-5 win against Johnstown. Sydney Szczepanik had three hits and scored three runs, plus struck out nine in securing the complete-game win. Shelby LaMont had a home run in the win.

Mohonasen collected a 13-1 win against Albany Academy in Colonial Council play. Mattison Muller had two triples and three RBIS, while Amanda O’Connor tripled as part of a three-hit day. Kiera Rogers earned the pitching win with five strikeouts in five innings.

Abby Brown pitched a five-inning no-hitter in Voorheesville’s 17-0 win against Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Rowan Knauf had a double and five RBIs in the win, while Megan Romansky had three hits and two RBIs.

In a 9-0 Suburban Council win against Albany, Saratoga Springs’ Grace Cornell tripled as part of a two-hit day that included two RBIs. Ryann Soltis also had two RBIs, plus allowed one hit while striking out five batters in pitching seven scoreless innings.

Madison Prior produced a game-winning two-RBI single in the seventh inning of Columbia’s 5-4 win against Niskayuna. Taylor O’Brien struck out 15 batters in the victory.

Livia Wiltsie had five hits — including four doubles — and five RBIs in Ballston Spa’s 22-9 win against Guilderland. Kendall Rafferty and Irene Dill each hit home runs for Guilderland, while Ballston Spa’s Ana Gold and Taylor Russell also hit home runs.

In a 22-0 win against Schenectady, Taylor Schoonmaker, Madi Rose and Cam Schlederer combined to pitch a perfect game for Averill Park.

Mariana Abate struck out 11 in five innings pitched during Shenendehowa’s 3-2 win against Troy. Abate allowed one unearned run. Ava Caputo had an RBI and pitched the final two innings for Shenendehowa, striking out three and allowed one earned run.

Anna Cleary had an RBI walk-off double in Bethlehem’s 5-4 win against Burnt Hills. Cleary also pitched for Bethlehem, striking out a dozen.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo won 14-13 against Schoharie in a Western Athletic Conference game. Alyssa VanGasbeck had a home run, triple, four RBIs and scored four runs as part of a four-hit effort for Schoharie. For B-K-W, Zoey Lounsbury and Madison Smith each tripled as part of two-hit days that included four RBIs. B-K-W scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to post the comeback win.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons won 10-3 against Galway. Ryenne Relyea had a triple, home run, three RBIs and scored three runs, while Marissa Carrera tripled and scored four runs as part of a three-hit performance. Ella Sawitzki struck out 10 in the complete-game pitching effort.

Fonda-Fultonville won 15-2 against Fort Plain/OESJ. Emma Crahan had a triple and double as part of a five-hit performance with five RBIs, and Kami Walton had four hits and two RBIs.

Allie Mienaltowski struck out 11 batters in Duanesburg’s 13-1 win against Loudonville Christian in non-league action. In a five-inning game, Mienaltowski also had two hits. Victoria Silva tripled and had two RBIs, while Sophia LeClair contributed a two-RBI double.

SCHALMONT BASEBALL’S GOULD PITCHES NO-HITTER

Carter Gould struck out 14 batters and allowed no hits in Schalmont’s 8-0 Colonial Council baseball win against Watervliet. Gould walked two batters in the contest. Christian Tortorici and Thomas Pascarella each doubled in the win, while Pascarella had two RBIs and Tortorici had one.

Albany Academy’s Alex Gay struck out 10 batters and allowed one run in 5 1-3 innings, as the Cadets defeated Mohonasen 3-1 in a Colonial Council game.

La Salle won 7-5 against Ichabod Crane. Connor Mauro had a single, double, stolen base, two RBIs and one run scored in the win.

Columbia topped Niskayuna 8-2 in Suburban Council baseball play. Dylan Tierney hit a home run in the victory, while Gabriel Peace had three RBIs and Kyle Blake had three hits.

Averill Park won 14-3 against Schenectady. Ben Ferlito had two hits and three RBIs in the win, while Xander Canfield singled twice for Schenectady and David Bernard had an RBI double.

Tyler Sausville and Quinn Keller combined to strike out 13 batters in Colonie’s 3-1 win against CBA. Jesus Sarda and Zack Ashline each doubled in the win.

In Foothills Council play, Schuylerville won 4-2 against Johnstown. Luke Sherman doubled for Schuylerville, while Jared Stewart and Evan Baker each had a hit for Johnstown.

In Western Athletic Conference action, Galway won 20-0 against Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons in a game called after four innings. Henry Flint struck out seven batters in three scoreless innings for Galway.

Troy Butler had a dozen strikeouts in Fort Plain’s 6-2 win against Fonda-Fultonville. Butler struck out four batters in the fifth inning after a dropped third strike and error allowed a Fonda-Fultonville batter to reach base. Matt Travis had a double in the win, while Justin Kearns scored both runs for Fonda-Fultonville.

Waterford-Halfmoon won 12-3 against Berlin/New Lebanon in Wasaren League play. Jake Houle had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs in the win. Blake Cribbs also had three RBIs in the win, while Werkie Hayes had three hits.

Hoosic Valley won 11-7 against Hoosick Falls. Hoosic Valley trailed 5-0 after one inning, but scored eight runs in the sixth. Justin Maxon was 4 for 4 with two doubles, including a bases-clearing double in the sixth.

IN OTHER ACTION

The Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth boys’ lacrosse team won its first game as a merged program, beating Troy 12-0 in a non-league game behind four goals and an assist from Andy Welch and three goals and two assists from Nick Covey. Goalie Dom Blair only needed two saves to record the shutout.

In a non-league girls’ lacrosse 21-1 win against Albany Academy, Shenendehowa’s Lauren Shanahan had four goals and four assists. Also for the Plainsmen, Kira Tucker had three goals and two assists, Payton Kisling contributed three goals and one assist, and Cameryn Wilder had one goal and five assists.

Gabby Rivera contributed four goals and two assists in Columbia’s 10-9 Suburban Council win against Averill Park.
