SARATOGA SPRINGS – A city man jumped into the open passenger window of a car and attempted to force the woman from the driver’s seat to take the vehicle, all with police on the scene, police said.
The driver, a 48-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries in the incident, police said.
Police charged the man, identified as Colby C. Flood, 19, of Saratoga Springs, with one count each of second-degree attempted robbery and first-degree unlawful imprisonment, felonies, along with multiple misdemeanors.
The incident happened late Friday afternoon at around 4:30 p.m. Officers were called to the area of West Avenue and Washington Street for a report of a man in the roadway there who appeared to be “attacking cars,” police said.
Arriving officers found a man later identified as Flood in the roadway on West Avenue, police said.
Officers attempted to speak with him, but he did not respond, police said. Other officers provided traffic control as the officers continued to follow Flood and talk to him as he moved, police said.
“After a few minutes Flood began to run and jumped into an open passenger window of a vehicle there on West Avenue,” police said in a release. “Once inside the vehicle, Flood attempted to force the 48-year-old female driver out of the car in an attempt to take possession of her vehicle.”
The driver was removed and officers then took Flood into custody. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, police said. No weapons were believed to be involved.
Flood was arraigned and ordered held on bail.
