High schools: Gomez, Relyea shine at Bi-County Invitational

Jacob Gomez of Amsterdam and Madison Relyea of Mayfield were selected the male and female athletes of the meet, respectively, at the Bi-County Invitational Saturday at Gloversville.

Gomez won the 400 and long jump, placed second in the 200, and anchored a 1,600 relay victory. Relyea won the 800 and 2,000 steeplechase, and helped the Panthers take the 3,200 relay and place second in the 1,600 relay.

Named top track performers were Shane Viscosi and Haley Clear of Fonda-Fultonville, and named top field performers were Alessandro Saltsman of Fonda-Fultonville and Macey Salvione of Gloversville. Viscosi won the 800 and 1,600 and helped the Braves take the 3,200 relay. Clear won the 1,500 and 3,000. Saltsman doubled in the shot put and discus, and Salvione doubled in the long jump and triple jump.

Host Schenectady earned the boys’ team championship at the Schenisky Invitational, with Shemar Delphin winning the 100, Deron Davis winning the 200, and the duo starting the Patriots 400 relay victory. Jack Foster of Saratoga Springs was best in the shot put and discus.

Saratoga Springs rolled to the girls team title, with Alycia Hart winning the 800, Emily Bush winning the 3,000, and both joining in a first-place 3,200 relay. Niskayuna got wins from Kaleigh West in the 100 and Marissa Wise in the 200, and the pair helped the Silver Warriors place first in the 1,000 sprint medley relay. Maddie Sauders of Bethlehem doubled in the weights.

At the Guilderland boys’ invitational, Columbia secured the team title, and Blue Devil ace Alexandros Wheeler won the long jump and triple jump and ran legs on first-place sprint medley and 800 relays. Colonie’s Fabien De Silva  Jr. won the 200 and 400, and helped the Garnet Raiders triumph in the 400 relay. Scott Dochat of Shenendehowa won the shot put and discus.

Guilderland won the girls’ team title behind Kendall Barnhart, who won the 400 and helped the Dutchmen take the sprint medley relay and the 800 relay, and Molly DiCaprio, who prevailed in the long jump and triple jump. Leonni Griffin of Shaker won the 800 and 1,500.

SCHWAN TOPS SCHWAN IN BOYS’ LACROSSE MATCHUP

Tom Schwan’s Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys’ lacrosse team topped Saratoga Springs, coached by his son Ian Schwan, 25-12 in a Suburban Council game. Shane McClernan had eight goals and two assists for the Spartans, and Kevin Carney had four goals and seven assists. Robby Fox scored four times for the Blue Streaks.

Davey Carroll scored four goals, Greyson Vorgang had three goals and five assists, and the Niskayuna boys’ lacrosse team remained unbeaten with a 14-6 victory at CBA. Brock Behrman and Klokiw Lucas both had two goals and four assists for Niskayuna.

Ballston Spa scored five unanswered goals in the first quarter and beat Shaker 11-9. Owen Walsh and Erik Gottmann had hat tricks for the Scotties.

Connor White piled up eight goals and two assists to propel Quensbury past Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth 14-0 in Foothills Council action.

Avery Jones reached double digits for the second time this week with 10 goals and three assists in Bethlehem’s 24-5 girls’ Suburban Council lacrosse win over Columbia.

Allie Connally and MK Lescault scored six goals apiece and combined for 15 points to lift Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake over Saratoga Springs 19-4. 

Sara Stalica totaled six goals and an assist, and three of her Shenendehowa teammates recorded hat tricks in a 22-1 win over Colonie. 

Liv Nevo had five goals and an assist to lead Albany past Schenectady/Mohonasen 15-7 in a non-league game.

Cal VanderVeer belted a three-run home run, and Shenendehowa held of Colonie 9-8 in a Suburban Council baseball game. Zack Ashline homered for Colonie. 

Vince Venditti had a home run, double and two RBI, and pitched three-hit ball over six innings as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake beat Saratoga Springs 4-0.

CBA pitching gave up seven hits and three runs in sweeping Niskayuna 8-2 and 9-1. Jake O’Connor gave up one hit over five innings in the 9-1 win.

Aidan McPhail gave up one hit and fanned eight, and Greenwich scored nine times in fourth inning of a shortened 15-0 Wasaren League win over Berlin/New Lebanon.

Ryan Visco  had two hits, four stolen bases and picked up the save with a scoreless seventh in Broadalbin-Perth’s 3-0 non-league win over Hoosic Valley.

Geneo Savoca went 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs, and Aidan O’Keefe went 3-for-5 with two RBIs in Albany Academy’s 12-6 non-league win at Schalmont.

Hadley Donnelly struck out 9 and gave up one hit,  Ana Gold homered twice and had six RBI, and Halley Wright homered among her three hits and drove in seven as part of Ballston Spa’s 22-0 Suburban Council softball win over Shaker

Troy’s 17-4 win over Albany featured Olivia Decitise’s triple, two-double, three-RBI performance, and two doubles apiece from Olivia Ashline and Katie Pryor.

Lindsey Bell drove in five runs with a double and two singles to key Saratoga Springs’ 12-5 won over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.

Shenendehowa beat Colonie 12-9 and 14-2 in a double-header sweep. Kelsey Higgins homered twice in the first game and again in the second and finished with seven RBIs.
