High schools: Toukatly leads Mohonasen to softball win

The Mohonasen softball team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 10-2 Colonial Council win Monday against Catholic Central.

Keeley Herrick had three singles in the win, while Sara Toukatly had two singles, a double and two RBIs. Also adding two RBIs for Mohonasen were Maritza Gonzales and Hannah Poodiack, while Mattison Muller had a single and a double.

Toukatly earned the complete-game pitching win.

Lucy Pipas had a double and two RBIs for Catholic Central.

In Suburban Council play, Shenendehowa won 12-0 against Averill Park. Mariana Abate struck out eight batters in five scoreless innings, while four Plainsmen — McKenna Barry, Kelsey Higgins, Heather Junjulas and Becca Zawistowski — each hit a home run.

Halle Wright hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning of Ballston Spa’s 6-5 comeback win against Troy. Hadley Donnelly pitched a complete game for Ballston Spa, striking out six and allowing only one earned run.

Niskayuna won 5-4 against Shaker. Emily DeSoyza drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh. In the win, Anna Joyce hit her second home run of the season.

Anna Cleary struck out 10 as part of Bethlehem’s 3-0 win against Guilderland. Ella Traynor had two RBIs.

Columbia won 9-2 against Burnt Hills. Taylor O’Brien struck out a dozen in the complete-game win, plus hit a home run. Maeve Marra also hit a home run, while Megan Sousa had two hits and four RBIs.

Brenna Jahn hit a game-winning RBI single in the eighth inning to deliver a 2-1 Foothills Council win for Scotia-Glenville against Hudson Falls. Ayanna Ortiz-Nicklas singled in the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Tartans.

In a Western Athletic Conference win, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons won 12-2 against Schoharie. Ella Sawitzki had a home run, three RBIs and struck out seven in the complete-game pitching effort, while Emery Sawitzki had four hits and three RBIs, and Marissa Correra had three hits and three RBIs. Ryenne Relyea added two doubles.

Mayfield won 6-2 against Galway. Jillian Botch struck out 11 in the complete-game win, while Amber Kolpakas struck out a dozen for Galway. Kolpakas also had two hits.

In the Wasaren League, Mechanicville won 3-2 against Hoosick Falls. Chloe Robert picked up the win and struck out nine.

Tamarac won 9-0 against Berlin/New Lebanon. Moira Collins struck out nine in the shutout, and Gianna Bucciero tripled as part of a two-hit day that included three RBIs.

PHILLIPS REACHES 799

Fort Plain won 9-3 against Berne-Knox-Westerlo in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game, as head coach Craig Phillips picked up career victory No. 799. Stephen Gray had an RBI single and an RBI double in the win, while Austin VanGorder struck out 10 batters in six innings on the mound. Fort Plain, which is 5-0 on the season, will play Tuesday at Mayfield in Phillips’ first attempt at winning game No. 800 of his career.

Luke Helmstadt struck out nine batters in Schoharie’s 11-1 win against Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons. Dan Bernhardt had two singles in the win.

Galway won 21-0 against Mayfield. Brendan Shader had four hits and a home run and Mike Zelezniak had three hits.

Middleburgh’s Kevin Fuller and Josh Shaw each had two RBIs in a 9-1 win against Northville.

Tommy Wiengart had a walk-off RBI hit in Canajoharie’s 3-2 win against Fonda-Fultonville. Jack Krug had a double and scored two runs in the victory.

In the Suburban Council, Burnt Hills topped Columbia 4-3 in eight innings. Justin Gray hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to win it for Burnt Hills. Also starring for Burnt Hills was Kyle DeCresce, who had a home run, three RBIs and struck out six batters in six innings on the mound.

In relief, Bennett Hladun struck out three batters during two scoreless innings.

Shenendehowa also had a walk-off win. In a 2-1 victory against Averill Park in eight innings, Cal Vander Veer delivered the winning RBI hit. Sean Flaherty pitched all eight innings in the win for the Plainsmen, as he struck out seven. Aidan McCue also went the distance for Averill Park, striking out four in 7 1-3 innings.

Guilderland won in walk-off fashion with a 7-6 victory against Bethlehem. Aidan Chrysler drove in the game-winning run as part of a three-RBI day. Dan Keaney had three hits for Guilderland, while Liam Gregory had three hits for Bethlehem.

CBA won 13-0 against Albany. Joe Gold struck out seven in three scoreless innings for CBA.

Sean Hudson had three RBIs in Saratoga Springs’ 12-5 win against Schenectady. Alexander Teator, Brendan Karadenes and Nathan Rodriguez each added two RBIs in the win, while David Bernard and Alex Peters each had two RBIs for Schenectady.

A late rally from Niskayuna came up short in a 5-4 loss to Shaker. The Silver Warriors scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh. For Shaker, Robert Fratangelo and Trey Mariano each hit a home run.

Amsterdam won 12-0 against Scotia-Glenville in a Foothills Council game. Carson Cotugno and Noah Marshall combined to strike out 11 in the shutout, while Spencer Cotugno had a game-high three RBIs. CJ Durinick had three hits and scored four runs.

Broadalbin-Perth won 12-1 against Johnstown. Peyton Bogusz had two RBIs, while Mike Magliocca struck out nine in 5 2-3 innings of scoreless relief pitching.

Queensbury picked up a 4-1 win against Gloversville. Tyler Spaulding had two hits and two RBIs in the win.

Geneo Savoca struck out 11 batters as part of a no-hitter in Albany Academy’s 14-0 Colonial Council win against Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Savoca walked none, but Albany Academy committed one error. Teige Kimbler had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs.

Nathan Garafalo struck out 11 batters in six scoreless inning on the mound during Ichabod Crane’s 2-1 win against Schalmont.

Voorheesville won 19-1 against Watervliet. Nick Romansky and Ryan Guiry each had four hits for Voorheesville, while Guiry also had four RBIs. Luke Day struck out 11 batters in five scoreless innings to secure the win.

Jonny Yamin had a double, single and three RBIs in La Salle’s 14-7 win against Cohoes, while Eddie Girtler added two doubles and two RBIs.

Cobleskill-Richmondville won 6-1 against Lansingburgh. David Nicholas had three hits and two RBIs in the victory, plus struck out eight without allowing an earned run in 4 1-3 innings on the mound. Jarred Becker also had two RBIs.

Tamarac won 14-4 against Berlin/New Lebanon in the Wasaren League. Colby Phelps tripled and had two RBIs, while Zach Rice had three doubles in the win.

Hoosick Falls won 9-1 against Mechanicville. Jake Sparks pitched a complete game, striking out 11. He added a two-RBI triple in the first inning to start the scoring. Connor Jones and Andrew Sparks each added three hits in the win.

Ryan McCarroll struck out 13 batters in a complete-game, one-hit effort, as Saratoga Catholic won 2-1 against Greenwich. Ben Hajos and Ronan Rowe each had an RBI in the win.

IN OTHER ACTION

Holy Names won 24-4 against Emma Willard in Colonial Council girls’ lacrosse. Suzie Smith had eight goals and an assist.
