High Schools: Averill Park baseball downs Saratoga Springs

With a six-run first inning providing an early boost, the Averill Park baseball team secured a 9-3 Suburban Council win Wednesday against Saratoga Springs.

Jacob Coonan had a pair of doubles and three RBIs in the win, while Alex Yash had a three-hit day that included a triple. Benjamin Ferlito scored three runs for visiting Averill Park, and Michael Agro had two hits and two RBIs.

Patrick Deschaine had two RBIs for Saratoga Springs, while Evan Owens had two doubles.

Averill Park added two runs in the second inning to move ahead 8-0 before Saratoga Springs scored its first runs of the game in the third.

Shaker won 7-2 against Burnt Hills. John Graney pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts. The only runs he gave up were unearned. Leading the offense for Shaker was Joey Mirabile with a three-run home run, while Ryan Bates had two doubles and Joe Karpierz had two RBIs. Kyle Decresce doubled for Burnt Hills.

In a Colonial Council game, Ethan Grandjean, Aiden Heffner and Jake Kochanskyj each hit a home run in La Salle’s 9-2 win against Lansingburgh. Grandjean and Kochanskyj each had three RBIs, while Heffner had two.

BENAMATI STARS IN SOFTBALL WIN

In a 14-0 Suburban Council softball win against Shaker that was stopped after five innings of play, Burnt Hills’ Cianna Benamati didn’t allow a hit and struck out six. Benamati also was one of five Burnt Hills players with two RBIs. Leading the team’s offense were Carlianna Ewing and Reeghan Neary with three hits apiece.

Colonie won 12-10 against Niskayuna. Jaclyn Dyer hit a home run for Colonie. Both teams had a seven-run inning in the contest.
Bethlehem won 12-0 against Troy. Mackenzie Kawczak had four RBIs in the win, while Anna Cleary had two RBIs and struck out seven batters in five innings.

South Glens Falls won 9-3 against Queensbury in a Foothills Council game. Emma Martens had two RBIs in the win, while Hannah Breen struck out 10 batters.

Brenna Jahn hit a three-run home run as part of a six-RBI day to lead Scotia-Glenville to a 14-2 win against Broadalbin-Perth. Adrianna Marcello contributed two hits in the win.

MESICK LEADS HOLY NAMES

In a Colonial Council girls’ lacrosse match, Holy Names defeated Cohoes 15-5. Lauren Mesick led the way with five goals and an assist, while Anna Nichols and Caroline Serio each had three goals.

Bethlehem lost 15-11 to Kingston in a non-league match. Norah Prizzi led Kingston with six goals and three assists. For Bethlehem, Lauren Riker had four goals and three assists.
