Dismiss those who think Trump won

Our democracy depends on only two parties to function properly when the party which is out of power operates as a “loyal opposition party,” meaning an opposition party which operates within the rules of our Constitution.
In our last presidential election, one of the largest in terms of votes cast we have ever held, there was no doubt about the outcome, since the winner garnered 7 million more votes than the loser.
But the loser refused to accept his loss. This loser then incited a mob to invade our Capitol to attempt to stop Congress certifying the vote, as required by our Constitution. Most of the Republican Party in the House and Senate then refused to acknowledge that an insurrection had taken place, even though Mitch McConnell in the Senate admitted that the loser had, in fact, encouraged a mob to invade the chambers of our House and Senate to stop the process — after millions of citizens had watched their insurrection take place.
I am asking my fellow citizens, including registered Republicans, to no longer support the mob who claim that this loser is still their leader.
In addition, I ask that they no longer vote for or contribute money to the Republicans currently in federal or state or local positions because they are traitors to our Constitution to which they pledged their loyalty to serve, protect and defend.
Bruce Atkins

Wake up and don’t trust government

I had to laugh at Tony Norman’s May 12 column (“The Big Lie and the little politicians who make it possible.”) If you’re going to write a column about lies, why not include all politicians, the press and the president’s administration.
Trump didn’t lie about the swamp. Hopefully people will realize how lobbyists are the ones who really manipulate our government and how the press distorts and reports only what they want people to know.
If the Hunter Bidens of the world are allowed to have a gun, then all Americans should be allowed to carry a weapon without any permits.
We should have the same rights as criminals. The policies of our present leaders are going to force this issue.
People have to take control of their lives and follow the example of the red states. Texas now allows citizens to own and carry guns with no permits or training. All states should follow their example.
Very few of the people killed by firearms aren’t  killed by citizens who have permits to carry a firearm.
I think Americans are in for a real education and better wake up. Better to trust yourself to do the right thing rather than trust our government.
James Renner

Me. Atkins have you seen the videos of the children 34 and five years old left alone in the desert by the US border? Have you seen the videos of children drowning in the Rio Grande River trying to cross into United States? Have you seen the video of the kids hundreds and hundreds laying side-by-side many with Covid in cages on our southern border? If anyone is a traitor to our constitution I would say it’s Democrats with their open border policies not to mention cutting off our pipe lines in the United States while allowing Russia to have their pipeline. Shutting down jobs in the United States in the oil industry and then buying gasoline and oil from Middle East nations, that’s who the real traitors are. And I’m sure the response that I will get from this is more deflection from the Three Stooges. They won’t address any of these issues they will just deflect back to President Trump. Just like you did.

Guy Varoma

Zachery it’s funny how you are outraged now that a democrat is in charge …..Where was your outrage when Trump was president for 4 years….Biden’s been President for 4 months ..give him a little more time and this onslaught at the border will improve Under Biden’s humanitarian guidance….

Guy, ignore him. He’s a faux independent Trumpian who is a frustrated dude with nothing of value to share. Your comments were spot on. No need to go into more detail. He cannot accept the fact that Biden is doing very well and the majority of voters give him high marks, something Trump never achieved. The border has been a problem for all presidents for decades. If bipartisanship was ever needed, that’s the topic.

Have you noticed that a non-trivial number of these ever-tRumpers have declared themselves “independent”, likely because that’s what they see the kool kids do, yet there’s no hesitation to dive nose-first into whatever emanates from his…wherever.
Yeah, that’s not what “independent” means, y’all.

Mr. Varoma, Trump had remain in Mexico policy, they were not released into the U.S. to disappear. Illegal immigration is up over 800% under Biden, with more than 17000 unaccompanied children in four months. Drug smuggling is out of control with fentanyl deaths skyrocketing. Kamala Harris is in charge for the last 77 days and still has not visited the border or had a press conference about it. Their plan is to give Billions to the Triangle countries. Never going to work. Trump had it under control.

Zachary– I can’t find a reputable source about your 800% comment, but with the pandemic not allowing immigrants, of course there would be a surge now that the health risk is waning. Plus many were already waiting at the border.

Please explain how cruelly caging babies and children that were ripped from their parents had immigration “under control.” Biden started behind the 8 ball having to reunite the children with their lost parents (besides dealing with the pandemic and economic fallout).

45 defunded Central America funds, so the Biden Administration is trying to get at the root cause of why they are leaving (which you or I would do if we had to to save their children).
Drug smuggling has always been a problem, but I’m reading that many more are being apprehended.
Raymond is right–the border is always a problem and bipartisanship is crucial.

Since your words and unsourced “facts” have almost no credibility, let’s just focus on what we know for sure:

-There’s a tremendous economic disparity between the US and Central America, and with the high levels of corruption there it’s become a very dangerous place to raise a family so we shouldn’t be surprised that many, many citizens want to migrate here and that hasn’t changed much over the past several administrations.

-The Biden administration has continued the Trump closed border policy. Is that clear? The border is officially closed. Many don’t agree with continuing what’s known as Title 42 but look it up. It’s closed. Period.

-Secretary of State Blinken YESTERDAY met with “with Foreign Ministers from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, and Mexico in San Jose at a meeting of the Central America Integration System (SICA), the economic and political organization of the region’s states.” (State Dept. source)
VP Harris has indeed not jumped through your imaginary hoop of visiting the border. VP Harris was tasked by Pres. Biden to oversee diplomatic outreach to the Northern Triangle countries to address the root causes of the flood of refugees and that’s happening. Now.

-Donald Trump lied to you and the millions who follow him in selling you on his big wall (which didn’t work for Germany, nor China) saying it wouldn’t cost us a dime, that Mexico would pay for it. He lied repeatedly and vociferously. And when that predictably didn’t work out he robbed funds from our military to pay for it against the advice of military leadership. His administration had a blatant policy of separating children from parents in an attempt to intimidate them not to come, and then did not track their whereabouts, leaving it to NGOs to figure it out. All this is well-documented.

The immigration situation has been an abject mess spanning multiple administrations, NONE of whom got it under control, but only one stands out as being unusually cruel and ham-handed, and in violation of one of the primary tenets we’ve upheld as a country, that are inscribed on the Statue of Liberty. Putting up a wall and treating our country like a gated community (with the HOA from hell) is not a solution. And now it’s up to the Biden administration to clean up the last four years of human calamity.

For the love of God Chuck, stop posting facts and being logical. – Go down a few shots of bourbon, have a beer chaser with a tab of acid, wait 15 or 20 minutes then post the first thing that comes to mind. /s

I already did. This is what happens.
You should see me sober, I’m a mess.

Trump said China let virus escape from lab and Democrats said lie, follow the science. Biden says the same thing and it’s being checked out.
Trump said build a wall, Democrats said it was wrong. The open border is a mess, read a newspaper from a county that borders it.
Trump did not build the cages, Obama did. And they are being used by Biden.
And for all the lip service about social reform and giving to others, just throwing it out that Kamala Harris blames Trump for her grandmother’s living conditions in Puerto Rico, while driving around in her new Tesla.

msannie518–45 lied so much, we couldn’t believe a word out of his mouth…plus he constantly blames everyone/anyone else. Funny how he is responsible for NOTHING…such a victim, the poor little rich boy.
Biden did not say the virus escaped from a lab, but is willing to investigate based on new information…even if it makes dems look bad. That’s bipartisan.
The wall was a joke–only used as a catch phrase–and for Steve Bannon to grift off of.
It doesn’t matter who built the “cages,” 45 used them to rip babies and children from their parents with no way to reunite…THAT’S the issue.
You don’t think VP Harris is helping her grandmother? The point is that 45s administration purposely left Puerto Rico in the lurch–because they’re people of color and can’t vote–so why would he bother?

msannie, trump also said:

On immigration… “We’re rounding ’em up in a very humane way, in a very nice way. And they’re going to be happy because they want to be legalized. And, by the way, I know it doesn’t sound nice. But not everything is nice.” ~~ “Why are we having all these people from [email protected]#thole countries coming here?”

On Syrian refugees… “What I won’t do is take in two hundred thousand Syrians who could be ISIS… I have been watching this migration. And I see the people. I mean, they’re men. They’re mostly men, and they’re strong men. These are physically young, strong men. They look like prime-time soldiers. Now it’s probably not true, but where are the women?… So, you ask two things. Number one, why aren’t they fighting for their country? And number two, I don’t want these people coming over here.”

On border control… “I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will have Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.”

On Global warming…. “It’s really cold outside, they are calling it a major freeze, weeks ahead of normal. Man, we could use a big fat dose of global warming!” ~~ “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.”

On family…. “She does have a very nice figure… If [Ivanka] weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”

On healthcare…. “Nobody knew health care could be so complicated.”

Hypocrisy… “Crooked Hillary Clinton is the worst (and biggest) loser of all time. She just can’t stop, which is so good for the Republican Party. Hillary, get on with your life and give it another try in three years!”

On gay marriage…. “It’s like in golf… A lot of people – I don’t want this to sound trivial – but a lot of people are switching to these really long putters, very unattractive… it’s weird. You see these great players with these really long putters, because they can’t sink three-footers anymore. And, I hate it. I am a traditionalist. I have so many fabulous friends who
happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.”

On Mexico… “They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

On abortion… “Do you believe in punishment for abortion – yes or no – as a principle?”
“The answer is there has to be some form of punishment.”
“For the woman?”
“Yeah, there has to be some form.”

On why people would vote for him… “To be blunt, people would vote for me. They just would. Why? Maybe because I’m so good looking.”

On John McCain…“[John McCain is]… not a war hero. He’s a war hero – he’s a war hero ’cause he was captured. I Like people that weren’t captured, OK, I hate to tell you.”

On pop culture…. “My favourite part [of Pulp Fiction] is when Sam has his gun out in the diner and he tells the guy to tell his girlfriend to shut up. ‘Tell that bitch to be cool. Say: Bitch be cool.’ I love those lines.”

On women in Hollywood… “While @BetteMidler is an extremely unattractive woman, I refuse to say that because I always insist on being politically correct.”

On sharing his finances… “I look very much forward to showing my financials, because they are huge.”

On his intelligence…“Sorry losers and haters, but my IQ is one of the highest – and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault.”

On marriage… “I would never buy Ivana any decent jewels or pictures. Why give her negotiable assets?”

On beverages… “I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke.”

I’m borrowing…”As a kid, I was making a building with blocks in our playroom. I didn’t have enough. So I asked my younger brother Robert if I could borrow some of his. He said, ‘Okay, but you have to give them back when you’re done.’ I used all of my blocks, then all of his blocks, and when I was done I had a great building, which I then glued together. Robert never did get those blocks back.”

On his supporters… “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”

On the presidency… “I loved my previous life. I had so many things going. This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier.”

On breast-feeding mothers… “You’re disgusting.”

On diplomacy…. “Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me ‘old,’ when I would NEVER call him ‘short and fat?’ Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend – and maybe someday that will happen!
From Shortlist

There are literally thousands of additional stupid, lying or ridiculous quotes from trump I could have posted but didn’t because you’d be reading until tomorrow.

William Marincic

James Renner Ronald Reagan said the most terrifying words in the English language are “I am from the government and I’m here to help.”

What Alzheimer Reagan did was to start the public on not trusting government which overall, provides excellent public services. You may hate the government, but we cannot survive without them. Private enterprise can only do so much and most of it backed or underwritten by taxpayer money. For example, we wouldn’t have a military, infrastructure or hundreds of million doses of vaccine to fight Covid-19 without the government.

And it appears that confirms that our elections are rigged and some have a right to assault our Constitution, right?

A dose of government skepticism is healthy, after all, we don’t need government to solve ALL the problems in our country. But I watched “Florida Man” freaking out about a non-existent gas shortage and filling plastic shopping bags with 87 Octane not too long ago, so forgive me if I don’t trust the general public to “do the right thing” either.

“The Justice Department revealed Wednesday that it had, during President Donald Trump’s administration, secretly obtained the phone records of four New York Times reporters, marking the third time in recent weeks that federal law enforcement has disclosed using the aggressive and controversial tactic to sift through journalists’ data.” ~~
Washington Post

Cynthia, Besides being “Barking Mad!” trump and his appointees during the administration were an obvious bunch of deceitful, hypocritical, swamp filling scumbags. – Can’t wait for his chickens coming home to roost.

Mr. Restifo, how soon you forget.

Obama Administration Secretly Obtains Phone Records of AP Journalists
The Department of Justice secretly obtained phone records for reporters and editors who work for the Associated Press news agency, including records for the home phones and cell phones of individual journalists, apparently in an effort to uncover a leak.

Zachary–Obama wasn’t constantly casting doubt on the government, blaming the “deep state,” talking about being “spied on” like 45…always a victim while he engaged in that same behavior, always a hypocrite.

jclark124 But Trump was right. The MSM laughed and called BS when Trump said his phones were tapped. I guess he was right. Trump was right when he said this started in a Chinese lab as well. The leftist media did everything they could to make Trump look bad. I’ll take a braggart and a secure border, low unemployment, low gas prices, and a secure country over the Pedophile in Chief with his policies.

And I believe other reasons you will “take a braggart” is because you align with his Whit supremacist, racist, bigoted, science denial mind set, regardless of what catastrophic results are incurred.

Zachary– even a broken clock is correct twice a day. 45 is a pathological liar.

Zachary would rather have an Insurrectionist president who, to this day, is scheming to overturn a free and fair election, already attempted to overthrow our form of government…because of the border….smh.

Let’s be clear on something since you’re apparently weirdly fixated on it: Joe Biden is not a pedophile, and what you and your puppet masters are spreading in print is legally called libelous (not that would ever matter to you). I’ve seen the videos you’re banking on, including the disgusting frame-by-frame analyses others obsessed with the subject have put out. You have disturbing imaginations and predilections that reveal more about yourselves, than the dark fantastical conspiracy you all are desperately looking for.

jclark, it’s always about deflection with you people, never content. Trump is not an insurrectionist although most democrats are rioters, liars, looters, and thieves. And Biden is a pedophile which seems to be alright with you all. Remember when you point your gnarly finger there are four more pointing back at you.

Copy from the link you posted related to DOJ during the Obama administration:

“In an angry letter sent to Attourney General Eric Holder on Monday, AP CEO Gary Pruitt called it a “massive and unprecedented intrusion” into the AP’s newsgathering activities.
“There can be no possible justification for such an overbroad collection of the telephone communications of The Associated Press and its reporters.”

I believe it was wrong then and again now, thanks for the enlightenment. Unlike others on this forum, no hypocrisy from me.

So are you now saying trump had more integrity and was “draining the swamp” by repeating something that may have been cheap during the Obama administration or are you saying it’s justifiable because it was done before? ~ And if it’s the latter the Biden administration has one hell of a lot of catching to do.

Mr. Restifo, It was wrong for Obama and it was wrong for Trump. Unlike you, I’m willing to call out anyone for their wrongdoing. You should try it sometime.

William Marincic

I guess Mark Mahoney only censures and moderates conservative posts as these attacks by these three go on all day long with never an admonition.

Mark Mahoney

We approve 90% of the comments (including most of yours, Bill). I try to sift out the strong personal attacks (not the little jabs) and the blatant falsehoods, regardless of political position. If someone complains, including you, I check it out and if necessary, delete the offending comments and contact the offending commenter and ask them to knock it off. And no one is being censored; we have a right to monitor our site as we see fit. You know that Bill, because I’ve explained that to you a hundred times.

Bruce Atkins–EXACTLY. Just imagine a candidate winning by 7 million votes, recount after recount, gop officials verifying the results while being pressured by the POTUS to “find” votes–only one more than needed, for example, over 60 court cases with many “trump” judges and even the 2 to 1 Supreme Court rejecting their claims of fraud…but the trump cult STILL refuses to believe the results. What’s it going to take? It will NEVER be enough–which decays our belief in elections and our Republic. 45 is directly responsible for the Insurrection and will try again…while the traitor Flynn is encouraging another coup. Thankfully, his blog failed, since his cult members lost the “trump show” and would actually have to read!

Zachary, And I believe other reasons you will “take a braggart” is because you align with his Whit supremacist, racist, bigoted, science denial mind set, regardless of what catastrophic results are incurred.

And I believe other reasons you will “take a braggart” is because you align with his Whit supremacist, racist, bigoted, science denial mind set, regardless of what catastrophic results are incurred.

Posting that twice, actually three times wasn’t a mistake. And as Chuck would say, I’m done playing wack-a-mole with you. Have a nice day.

I wonder the outcry if a White man said this, obviously, their Black privilege allows this to go unchecked.

National Black Power Convention activist predicts a time will come when black Americans will ‘kill everything white in sight’

“Once they die, we must understand that we can never give them the pain that they gave us,” the man said, urging those listening to repeat his words. “So once they get buried … once they are buried, we must bury them, dig them up, and kill them again. Bury them. Dig them up. And kill them again.”

Ever notice how there’s some people out there, not unlike trump, that are a very serious threat to democracy and mankind and make Fred and Bill look like cream puffs in the pastry isle?

A-a-and predictably the quote came from an unidentified man in a crowd, outside the convention amplified by a questionable “conservative” tabloid. But for you it’s a sign of how awful those people are.
Your perpetually poor critical thinking skills are again on bright fisplay.

Meanwhile millions think donald will be President in August and hundreds ransacked the Capitol and trampled our flag and Constitution.

Charles Cooke, National Review on the Stable Genius:

“I can attest, from speaking to an array of different sources, that Donald Trump does indeed believe quite genuinely that he — along with former senators David Perdue and Martha McSally — will be ‘reinstated’ to office this summer after ‘audits’ of the 2020 elections in Arizona, Georgia, and a handful of other states have been completed,” Cooke writes, adding that Trump is trying journalists, politicians, and others to promulgate this belief.

And you people think Biden’s mentally unfit?

To my fellow stooges: will be off the grid for a few days. Have hip surgery tomorrow. Will miss the conversation for just a bit. Carry on!

An observation: I noticed, because of information posted it appears that the regular, frequent and I stress frequent, bloggers on this forum with perhaps the exception of Joe who is self employed are retired.

I personally think it’s great having the time to read various news sources as well as read, research, refute, and reinforce various posts on this blog as well as post my originals.

I also think it’s great that at least one admittedly gainfully employed individual on this forum that is also a regular and frequent blogger has an employer that is extremely generous so as to afford this this individual the time to do the aforementioned time consuming things.

Didn’t read the Gazette, other than the on line letters until a few minutes ago.

You’ve got to love this front page one regarding Republican gubernatorial candidate Andrew Guiliani paying a surprise visit to Perrecas Restaurant/Bakery located on Jay Street in Schenectady:

“I wasn’t aware that Andrew Giuliani stopped in my restaurant,” said Maria Perreca Papa, who co-owns the bakery with her brother.”
“The owner said the worker who answered the phone said they couldn’t visit without the owner’s approval, but the frontman insisted on stopping by to say hello, and the employee didn’t object.
When they arrived, the employees “put two and two together and realized it was a candidate,” the owner said.”
Perreca’s has a more than 100-year-old policy of not involving its businesses in politics, Papa said.
“That’s how we ended up ‘hosting’ Andrew Guiliani,” she said, adding she doesn’t like to offer political opinions, “but if I were going to host a political candidate, it wouldn’t be Andrew Giuliani. It would be someone with more traction, to put it diplomatically. I’m at a loss here.”

Footnote: I’m 72 years old and I’m sure the first time I was in Perrecas was when being carried in my mothers arms as a baby.
The Italian bread is absolutely the best! Baked in a huge coal fired oven kept burning 24/7 365. I know both owners Maria and her brother Tony.

Jack Nicholson raved about the bread back when he filmed Ironweed on location in Albany. If you’ve never been there go, get a loaf of bread and a slice of pizza. You’ll be back!

Joseph Vendetti

Can’t agree more – Perrecas has the best bread – maybe in the world. Have it almost every Weds & Sunday at my home when we have sauce.

There is a picture in the mens room in the restaurant next door of all the guys from the lunchonette. From age 8-15 I would ride my bicycle with my Gazette newspaper delivery bags on each shoulder down into the GE campus – wave to the guards, go to each building and pick up slips of paper, paper clips, and dollar bills, my bags would be full with slips and ones & I would do the guard shack last, then head to south ave and dump the bags out for Duilio (Jake). I owe everything to my padrino who got me into local 106 & local 294 and forced me to stay at RPI. Loved having coffee with him at 430 am every day, talking about the past & future, Taught me how to work 14 hrs a day, change hoses on my machines, & treat every person (laborer to president, black, white, etc with the same respect I wanted). Small little bond like Fontechiari, Italy, where his family and my family were from. Pretty sure Perrecas from right next door in Frosinone.

Youse guys are the salt of Schenectady!
I grew up just over the Schenectady county line, and delivered the Knick news on my stingray. But as I’ve mentioned before, my 11th great-grandfather was a magistrate (a “Schoute”) here. So there.

Love the stories and the history!

Great memories Joe, “Pasta Anna!” – I admit to playing some poker in the back room more than once. I ate at the luncheonette 4 out 5 days back in the day. I especially liked Wednesday when the roasted chicken and potatoes was the special of the day. Jake along with his sister Anna in the Kitchen with some other family members waiting tables couldn’t be beat.

Paul AKA “Legs” Jake’s brother was the “big boss.” I went to school with his kids, graduated with Paulette. Those guys were really connected, especially so with the Teamsters. Because of the connection, actually Paul’s son Pauly AKA “Big Louie” was the driver for Jack Nicholson during the shooting of Ironweed and is the person that introduced Nicholson to Perrecas.
I’ve got some great stories about those days.
