High schools: LaBate pitches Saratoga Springs softball to victory

Isabella LaBate struck out five and allowed an unearned run in leading the Saratoga Springs softball team to a 4-1 Suburban Council win Friday against Troy.

Saratoga Springs received two hits and an RBI from both Lindsey Bell and Ryann Soltis. Also contributing one RBI in the win were Karley Austin and LaBate.

In defeat, Olivia Decitise struck out 10.

In a 3-0 win against Albany, Ballston Spa’s Hadley Donnelly and Maggie Lyon combined for the shutout. Donnelly struck out eight batters in four innings, while Lyon struck out four in three. Halle Wright had a pair of hits, including a double, in the win.

Taylor Quinn had four RBIs in Colonie’s 7-0 win against Bethlehem, while Carly Gemmett struck out 11 batters in the shutout.

Averill Park won 12-7 against Niskayuna. Maisie Dawson hit a home run and had three RBIs in the victory.

Becca Zawistowski struck out six in five scoreless innings as part of Shenendehowa’s 16-0 win against Schenectady. Hannah Smith had three hits, including a triple, and three RBIs. Zawistowski also had three hits.

Columbia won 3-1 against Shaker. Taylor O’Brien had a no-hitter through six innings, and struck out eight in the one-hit shutout. Allie Silliman had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while Abbie Silliman had two hits.

In a Western Athletic Conference game, Mayfield picked up a 6-5 win against Schoharie. Heather Ginter had a home run and Marissa Wille had four RBIs in the victory, while Schoharie’s Maddi Bland and Allison Gallagher each had two RBIs.

South Glens Falls won 6-0 against Amsterdam in a Foothills Council game that clinched the regular-season title for the club. Hannah Breen struck out 14 batters in the shutout, and added three hits at the plate. Shelby LaMont had a double for Amsterdam.

Broadalbin-Perth outlasted Gloversville 12-11 in eight innings. Macie Pasquarelli hit a home run in the victory, and Megan Bazan had three hits and four RBIs. Kiaira Tomlinson also had three hits for Broadalbin-Perth. Gloversville’s Marilyn Christman had two RBIs.

HRBEK PITCHES NO-HITTER

Saratoga Springs’ Julian Hrbek pitched a no-hitter in Saratoga Springs’ 9-0 win against Troy in a matchup of Suburban Council foes. Hrbek struck out four in the contest. The teams played a doubleheader, and Troy won the other game 5-1 with Mike Kennedy registering three hits and two RBIs.

Shenendehowa defeated Schenectady 13-1. Ryan Pittz struck out six in five innings to earn the win. Thirteen Shenendehowa players recorded at least one hit, while Alex Sandberg had three RBIs.

Averill Park won 20-4 against Niskayuna. Ben Romer had two hits and four RBIs in the game, while teammates Jacob Coonan and Mike Wormuth each added three RBIs.

Columbia won 8-1 against Shaker. Dylan Tierney had two hits and three RBIs, and Brandon Biggane had three hits.

Ballston Spa secured an 11-0 win against Albany. Andrew Kramer struck out 11 in the shutout win, while each of Chance Checca, Brody Keneston and Blaine Zoller hit a home run.

Ryan Taffe hit two home runs and Liam Gregory slugged one in Bethlehem’s 9-5 win against Colonie.

Saratoga Catholic won 8-6 against Hoosick Falls in a Wasaren League game. Ryan McCarroll hit a home run and had four RBIs in the win, while Ben Hajos had two RBIs.

Jake Houle hit a home run in Waterford-Halfmoon’s 7-6 win against Stillwater. In defeat, Jaxon Mueller hit a home run.

In Colonial Council action, Schalmont topped Cohoes 10-4. Andrew Van Dyk had two hits and three RBIs for the Sabres, while Aiden Jasenski had two doubles.

Gloversville won 5-1 against Scotia-Glenville in a Foothills Council matchup. Dane Dillenback struck out six in six innings for Gloversville, while Doug Cook had three hits and two RBIs. Kyle Brown had three hits for the Tartans.

In a Western Athletic Conference matchup, Canajoharie’s Chance Petteys and Richard Tamsett combined to pitch a five-inning no-hitter in a 13-0 win over Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons. Petteys struck out five in three innings and Tamsett struck out four in two. At the plate, Jack Krug had a triple, double and two RBIs.

Fonda-Fultonville won 7-1 against OESJ. Tyler Daus and Charlie Susi each had two hits in the victory.

Duanesburg defeated Schoharie 4-1, then topped Middleburgh 12-5. Ryan Coons hit a two-run home run in the first win, then Shane Wetherington had a two-run home run in the second victory. Also against Middleburgh, Peyton Fall had two doubles and a single.

Johnstown cruised to an 11-3 non-league win over Mayfield. Mick Winton struck out seven hitters in five innings to earn the victory. Evan Baker had three hits, Ben Krempa had two and Winton had a double.

BH-BL COMPLETES PERFECT LEAGUE SEASON

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake girls’ lacrosse team wrapped up a 12-0 Suburban Council campaign with an 11-10 win against Shenendehowa. Allie Connally had three goals and two assists in the win, while Ella Blesi and MK Lescault each had three scores. Isabel Adams had one goal and three assists for Burnt Hills, which suffered its only regular-season loss against Queensbury of the Foothills Council. For Shenendehowa, Lauren Shanahan and Sara Stalica each had three goals.

Avery Jones had six goals and an assist in Bethlehem’s 16-6 win against Saratoga Springs. Carly Wise had four goals for Saratoga Springs.

Jackie Reffelf had three goals and two assists in Niskayuna’s 10-9 win against Shaker. Mary Kate Cestaro had two goals and an assist in the victory, while Ashlyn McPartlon added two goals and Izzie Petracci made 14 saves. For Shaker, Lauren McCulloch scored four goals.

ISAACSON LEADS PLAINSMEN

Pascal Isaacson registered eight goals in Shenendehowa’s 21-1 Suburban Council boys’ lacrosse win against Troy. Justin Mayo contributed three goals and two assists, Colin Palmer had three goals and an assist, and John Milham scored three goals.

CAFARIELLA, LESCHEN LEAD SCHENECTADY/MOHONASEN

Max Leschen had four goals and an assist in Schenectady/Mohonasen boys’ lacrosse’s 14-0 win Thursday against Catholic Central. Mike Cafariella added four goals, while Kyle Shendler had two goals and two assists, and Joel Pacheco scored two goals. Ryan Huba made seven saves in the shutout.
