Right to bear arms has deadly costs

Samuel Cassidy legally purchased the semi-automatic pistols and ammunition he used for his killing spree in San Jose.
He had the right to keep and bear arms, even with murderous intent. Gun violence is a reality of living in the United States.
A society that worships the gun pays a price in blood. It is what it is, and it will never change. So, as the song says, “Don’t worry! Be happy!”
I was pleased to read that each of the three shooters in Tallahassee used an “assault rifle,” the NRA’s favorite weapon.

Trump is guilty and Republicans know it

It’s been said “politics are crooked” and “money is the root of all evil.” Truer words have never been spoken since the advent of Trump into politics.
He entered with the lie of Barack Obama’s citizenship and departed with the lie of the election being rigged. As to the evil of money, his present situation speaks for itself.
The Grand Old Party has morphed into the Group of Pathetics.
With so many honest and moral people in the Republican Party, there should be no problem selecting a new leader.
The fact is, Trump didn’t win the popular vote in 2016. Just the Electoral College system assured his win.
The pathetics have publicly admitted that Joe Biden won the election and Trump was guilty as charged for the insurrection on Jan. 6. They’re now refusing to participate in a bipartisan commission.
Rep. Andrew Hyde from Georgia suggested that it was more like a visitation. No amount of dissension or rehashing is going to change what occurred that day. Donald Trump sent White supremacists to attack the Capitol, knowing full well that it was filled with members of Congress and staff.
You cannot change or alter the facts of that horrific day. You cannot say that we didn’t see what we saw or hear what we heard.
You are guilty, Mr. Trump, and every Republican that knows what you did, is also guilty. You are an accomplice to murder. You are responsible for the deaths and the serious injuries on that day.

Albany leaders must take responsibility

The only reason why there is a problem with the nursing homes here in New York state is because we the people had called our government leaders in Albany and told them, ‘Hey you need to do your job and let us see our loved ones.’ But they, along with the clown of a governor, were on a little power trip with a lockdown that was uncalled for. And besides, the owners of all the nursing homes had paid a lot of money to our clown of a governor when he ran of governor again.
Now, since we the people had brought to light about how our leaders in Albany where not doing their jobs, we the hard working people are now footing the legal bills for the problems of this whole nursing home mess, which is not right.
Way to take responsibility for your actions, leaders in Albany.

We’re innocent until proven guilty in U.S.

I’m writing with regard to Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche’s comments in the June 3 Gazette article (“Priest removed following allegations of sex abuse.”)
One of the most sacred principles in the American criminal justice system is holding that a defendant is innocent until proven guilty.
In other words, the prosecution must prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, each essential element of the crime charged.
The presumption of innocence is protected as a matter of law within our national legal system and is crucial to ensure and protect the human dignity of those who are accused of committing crimes.
When a public authority implies the guilt of a suspect by providing public statements, such as, “The Diocese of Springfield Misconduct Commission found the allegation to be credible,” the presumption of innocence is violated and irretrievable damage is inflicted to the suspect’s reputation.
To protect the integrity of our justice system, it is crucial to ensure a fair trial is provided to those accused of crime and not the mere presentation of an allegation or opinion of a commission. Until truthful evidence is provided as to a crime being committed, allegations remain merely assertions.

Liberal Dems will help restore ideals

Regarding Robert Mangino’s May 11 letter (“Liberal Dems are hurting our country”), the country was going down the tubes when Trump supporters were in charge and continues to do so where his supporters try to exert control.
Liberal Democrats and other progressives will bring America closer to living up to the ideals I admired when I was in school.

Joyce M. Cockerham how dare you compare Trump supporters to the Nazis who murdered six million Jews. Your letter is reprehensible and shame on the Gazette for publishing it.

First, please condemn Marjorie Taylor Greene’s comments about comparing COVID restrictions to the Holocaust, and then we’ll consider your outrage over the letter. I do remember a time when Trump supporters marched in Charlottesville with tiki torches and chanting ‘Jews will not replace us’, so…. maybe it’s a case of “if the shoe fits”?

Condemn Marjorie Taylor Greene you say.
Why would he want to do that and loose the 100 percent purity of his hypocrisy status?

Zachary–Did you read my response yesterday about how Hitler was jailed, but then came back into power with devastating results? That’s what we fear. 45 spreads LIES that sheep rally around (started with Obama’s birth certificate). 45 gives a binary choice–either bow down to him, or suffer the consequences. He definitely has autocratic tendencies and “fell in love” and defended the likes of Putin and Kim Jong Un…because that’s who he wants to be…corrupt and immune from prosecution. Besides, 45 is already responsible for hundreds of thousands of Covid deaths. If he was honest, upfront, caring or capable, many more Americans would have lived. America did not LEAD in this fight. (yes, he ordered Warp Speed, which I know must have exhausted him)!

Mark Mahoney

We will no longer allow the word Nazi to be used in letters as a political metaphor, and the word has been removed from the letter published today.

“The U.S. Capitol Police had specific intelligence that supporters of President Donald Trump planned to mount an armed invasion of the Capitol at least two weeks before the Jan. 6 riot, according to new findings in a bipartisan Senate investigation, but a series of omissions and miscommunications kept that information from reaching front-line officers targeted by the violence”….
“There were significant, widespread and unacceptable breakdowns in the intelligence gathering. . . . The failure to adequately assess the threat of violence on that day contributed significantly to the breach of the Capitol,” Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.), chairman of the homeland security panel, told reporters. “The attack was, quite frankly, planned in plain sight.” – Washington Post

Imagine that. Golly gee, wonder why the GOP is doing every in their power to stop a bipartisan commission to investigate the blatantly obvious, believe your eyes and ears, crimes that were committed by trump and his zombie followers.

Mr. Restifo said “The U.S. Capitol Police had specific intelligence that supporters of President Donald Trump planned to mount an armed invasion of the Capitol at least two weeks before the Jan. 6 riot, according to new findings in a bipartisan Senate investigation…..

That is an absolute lie; according to Fox News’ Chad Pergram and the Associated Press;

“Neither the USCP, nor the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, Metropolitan Police or our other law enforcement partners knew thousands of rioters were planning to attack the U.S. Capitol. The known intelligence simply didn’t support that conclusion,” the statement said.

Typical lying democrat Mr. Restifo.

Jane Reisenger you are the pathetic one, you support a pedophile named Joe Biden, you are responsible for every child that drowns, dies, and is raped coming to this country illegally. You and every person that voted for Biden has blood on your hands, blood of children. Sleep well.

Zachary–HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You can say anything you want, but lack evidence. Our country is based on the rule of law where you MUST back up your claims from reputable sources.

Funny how you always refer to TDS, but can’t refute the actual evidence given–weak.
As if Biden is choosing to have children (anyone!) come to the border. You have Biden Derangement Syndrome!

Zachary–one more thing. 45’s policy at the border was to PURPOSELY traumatize children by separating them from their parents with NO way to reunite them! That will have long-term negative effects. Just cut the crap about how Biden is responsible for children sent to the border, when that is in no way his decision. Biden is taking them in and dealing with them as best he can.

Do you support an armed insurrection against the US government?
You can answer, or you can go stand with Marincic in the “Spineless” line for avoiding the issue.

Zachary, their opinions carry more weight than facts. All who who voted against Biden were not Trump supporters. Some voted against the CRT, squawk squad, defund the police, etc. Now we are giving Billions to other countries of taxpayer money to stop illegal immigrants while we have poverty and homeless problems here. I will go along with defund the police when the politicians take down their estate walls and retire their armed guards.
