Right to bear arms has deadly costs
Samuel Cassidy legally purchased the semi-automatic pistols and ammunition he used for his killing spree in San Jose.
He had the right to keep and bear arms, even with murderous intent. Gun violence is a reality of living in the United States.
A society that worships the gun pays a price in blood. It is what it is, and it will never change. So, as the song says, “Don’t worry! Be happy!”
I was pleased to read that each of the three shooters in Tallahassee used an “assault rifle,” the NRA’s favorite weapon.
Trump is guilty and Republicans know it
It’s been said “politics are crooked” and “money is the root of all evil.” Truer words have never been spoken since the advent of Trump into politics.
He entered with the lie of Barack Obama’s citizenship and departed with the lie of the election being rigged. As to the evil of money, his present situation speaks for itself.
The Grand Old Party has morphed into the Group of Pathetics.
With so many honest and moral people in the Republican Party, there should be no problem selecting a new leader.
The fact is, Trump didn’t win the popular vote in 2016. Just the Electoral College system assured his win.
The pathetics have publicly admitted that Joe Biden won the election and Trump was guilty as charged for the insurrection on Jan. 6. They’re now refusing to participate in a bipartisan commission.
Rep. Andrew Hyde from Georgia suggested that it was more like a visitation. No amount of dissension or rehashing is going to change what occurred that day. Donald Trump sent White supremacists to attack the Capitol, knowing full well that it was filled with members of Congress and staff.
You cannot change or alter the facts of that horrific day. You cannot say that we didn’t see what we saw or hear what we heard.
You are guilty, Mr. Trump, and every Republican that knows what you did, is also guilty. You are an accomplice to murder. You are responsible for the deaths and the serious injuries on that day.
Albany leaders must take responsibility
The only reason why there is a problem with the nursing homes here in New York state is because we the people had called our government leaders in Albany and told them, ‘Hey you need to do your job and let us see our loved ones.’ But they, along with the clown of a governor, were on a little power trip with a lockdown that was uncalled for. And besides, the owners of all the nursing homes had paid a lot of money to our clown of a governor when he ran of governor again.
Now, since we the people had brought to light about how our leaders in Albany where not doing their jobs, we the hard working people are now footing the legal bills for the problems of this whole nursing home mess, which is not right.
Way to take responsibility for your actions, leaders in Albany.
We’re innocent until proven guilty in U.S.
I’m writing with regard to Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche’s comments in the June 3 Gazette article (“Priest removed following allegations of sex abuse.”)
One of the most sacred principles in the American criminal justice system is holding that a defendant is innocent until proven guilty.
In other words, the prosecution must prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, each essential element of the crime charged.
The presumption of innocence is protected as a matter of law within our national legal system and is crucial to ensure and protect the human dignity of those who are accused of committing crimes.
When a public authority implies the guilt of a suspect by providing public statements, such as, “The Diocese of Springfield Misconduct Commission found the allegation to be credible,” the presumption of innocence is violated and irretrievable damage is inflicted to the suspect’s reputation.
To protect the integrity of our justice system, it is crucial to ensure a fair trial is provided to those accused of crime and not the mere presentation of an allegation or opinion of a commission. Until truthful evidence is provided as to a crime being committed, allegations remain merely assertions.
Liberal Dems will help restore ideals
Regarding Robert Mangino’s May 11 letter (“Liberal Dems are hurting our country”), the country was going down the tubes when Trump supporters were in charge and continues to do so where his supporters try to exert control.
Liberal Democrats and other progressives will bring America closer to living up to the ideals I admired when I was in school.
