School lacrosse: Niskayuna boys cruise to win

Seven different Niskayuna boys’ lacrosse players recorded at least three points in the top-seeded team’s 21-3 Class A quarterfinal win Tuesday against Colonie.

Brock Behrman led Niskayuna with three goals and five assists in the Silver Warriors’ postseason opener. Greyson Vorgang recorded two goals and four assists, while Lucas Klokiw added three goals and two assists, and Davey Carroll had three goals and an assist.

Noah Watso-Hanson and Sanzio DiGuesaldo each scored three goals in the win.

Niskayuna will play Shaker in a Friday semifinal. No. 4 Shaker topped No. 5 CBA 9-3 with Michael Lacouture’s five goals leading the way.
Second-seeded Guilderland won 22-11 against No. 7 Saratoga Springs. Kevin Gutknecht had five goals and two assists for Guilderland, while Daniel Macchiarella scored five goals, and Logan Broomhall contributed two goals and six assists.

Guilderland will play the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between No. 3 Shenendehowa and No. 6 Bethlehem.

COLUMBIA ADVANCES
With a 16-1 victory against Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth, Columbia advanced to the Class B boys’ lacrosse semifinals. Billy DiDonna had five goals and an assist, and each of Riley DeJohn and Ryan Blake registered three goals and two assists. For Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth, Andy Welch scored a goal.

Fourth-seeded Columbia will play top-seeded Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in a Thursday semifinal. No. 2 Ballston Spa and No. 3 Queensbury will play Friday in the other semifinal.

RINGER SCORES A DOZEN
Taryn Ringer scored a dozen goals and added a half-dozen assists in Johnstown’s 24-5 win against Catholic Central in the first round of the Class D girls’ lacrosse tournament. Fourth-seeded Johnstown led No. 5 Catholic Central 17-2 at halftime. Molly Memrick contributed six goals for Johnstown, which plays No. 1 Holy Names in a Friday semifinal.

Quincy Hytko scored nine goals and registered an assist in Cohoes’ 13-12 win against Hoosick Falls. Jenna Mills scored the game-winning goal with less than four minutes to play, and Emma Benedetti made 15 saves in victory.

No. 2 Cohoes will play No. 2 Schuylerville, which won 15-3 against Greenwich, in the semifinals. In Tuesday’s win, Ella Welsh led Schuylerville with five goals and an assist, and Star Pflieger had three goals and three assists.
